Rate of Photosynthesis Aim

Plants take in carbon dioxide and realise oxygen using photosynthesis

so I am trying to determine the rate of photosynthesis. In this

experiment I will investigate how sodium hydrogen carbonate affects

the rate of photosynthesis.

Apparatus Needed

----------------

ü Glass Funnel

ü Desk lamp

ü 1 Litre Beaker

ü Test tube

ü Aquatic Plant (Canadian Pond weed)

ü A ball of plasticine

ü Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate

ü Razor Blade

ü Bench lamp with a 40W bulb

ü 30cm wooden ruler

ü Clock

ü Stirring rod

Using the Apparatus

-------------------

ü I will follow all the lab safety rules e.g. no running, no back

packs etc)

ü I will have to keep the lamp away from making contact with any water

or moisture.

ü When using the razor blade I must take extreme caution as it can

easily cut my finger or cause harm to others.

Fair Test

---------

To ensure that a fair test is carried out I will follow the following

points promptly.

ü I will have to keep all the different amounts of Sodium Hydrogen

Carbonate at the same distance from the lamp I will measure the

distance using the wooden ruler.

ü I will take fresh tap water for each experiment.

ü I will use the same part of the lab to keep the temperature and

other light sources the same.

ü I will make sure the lamp also stays in the same spot and I will use
