I feel that rape culture stems from a male’s dominance over a female. After reading these articles it seems that men often see women as possessions or objects that they can do whatever they want with. I feel that “rape culture” normalizes male sexual violence against women and tends to blame the female for the males actions.
I think society sees sexual violence as socially correct because it seems to be widely accepted throughout our society. I hear stories in the news about this guy and that guy raping women on a regular basis and nothing is done about it. For example the athlete that raped a girl by a dumpster who was tried in court and was only given six months for this crime. For this reason men can feel that they have to have control and power over a woman because if they don’t then they are not considered a “real manly man” since they cannot control their woman. I feel that these pressures from society can cause some men to feel that they are the boss of a woman and that the woman has to do everything that the man says. However, I feel if the woman tries to stand up for herself certain men will take that stance as an attack against their manhood and lash out physically against a woman.

I feel that violence is “gendered” because in many cultures, it is often the men who are the aggressor and perpetrator in the relationship. For this reason I feel that there is a link between domestic violence and gender attitudes within many societies. I believe that all of this stems from the socially constructed gender roles within a society where the power and resources are unequally divided between the men and women. Since attitudes about masculinity are socially constructed and are not innate since this is a learned behavior, it can be changed through proper education. (Unknown
