The story, “Raising the Blinds”, by Peggy Kern, inspired the reader to correct their life from difficult dilemmas. The author was excited to be in college, and there was a different reason she wants to be in college. In the past year, Peggy started having problems with her parents. At first, her parents would argue in their bedroom, but the quarrel became extreme. Soon her father moved to the basement, and he no longer ate at the dinner table with them. Soon her parents hired lawyers, her Father moved out, and she felt nothing to her parents. During the divorce, Peggy felt betrayed by her father and confused about what is happening around her. She tried to convince him that they should study more, and spend less time together. He wouldn’t listen and became cold towards her. Soon something would make Peggy realize she had to change. She became pregnant. After hearing her pregnancy, Tommy was delighted and believed it was the solution for them. Peggy was surprised to hear that from Tommy. She was only 18 years old, pregnant, and she didn’t want that to happen. She didn’t want to quit college and become a disappointment to her parents. She thought through of all the choices she made and made a conclusion that she had nobody else to blame, but herself. Soon Peggy told Tommy that she didn’t want the baby, she broke up with him, and she moved back home. She told her Mother the truth and made a commitment to be serious in her life. Peggy got a part-time job and continued her studies at a local community college. Soon she received a scholarship to a four-year university and enjoyed every moment of it. In the end, Peggy inspired us to take charge of our own future, and not to neglect our work. She taught us that no one else is to blame for the choices we
