PAT (CONT’D)
Mom, Morris wants me to tell you, “stop smoking because it’s killing you. He will fight for his life, if you fight for yours”.
Gail pulls down her surgical mask.
GAIL
(brittle/weak voice)
I love you with my entire heart, if you promise me that you won’t give up, then I’ll quit smoking. I love you sweetie, get better!
She blows Morris a kiss and pulls up her surgical mask. Ginger walks into the room.
GINGER
Anything else you need me to take darling?
SANDY
No, I think we’re good.
(turns to Pat)
There’s just one more thing I need you to do.
PAT
Yea sure, what is it?
Pat stares at Sandy.
EXT. NORFOLK GENERAL HOSPITAL - DAY
A running ambulance waits by the entrance, it’s doors are wide open. Morris lies …show more content…

Nettle leaves, while Boer stays changing the vacuum tubes. He has 10 tubes to fill. Morris closes his eyes from despair.
INT. X-RAY MACHINE - NIGHT
Morris lies on his back on the x-ray table. He opens up his eyes. The x-ray scan is complete. The sound of a door opening up is heard.
INT. HALLWAY - NIGHT
Boer wheels Morris down the hallway. Almost tripping over his own two feet.
BOER
Sorry about, uh, before but I have good news. You have a new roommate.
Morris’s eyes expand with happiness.
INT. HOSPITAL BEDROOM - NIGHT
Boer stands next to Morris’s hospital bed, holding up the alphabet chart. He rests the board on Morris’s bedside table.
BOER
Any-Anything else you need?
Morris blinks once for yes. Boer reaches for the chart, but it falls out of his hands pounding onto the floor. Boer picks it up and points to the first box.
BOER (CONT’D)
Is the letter in the first box?
Morris blinks twice for no. Boer points to box two.
BOER (CONT’D)
Is it in the second box?
Morris blinks twice. Boer points to box three.
BOER (CONT’D)
Is it in the third box?
Morris blinks twice. Boer points to box four.
BOER (CONT’D)
Is it in this box?
Morris blinks once for yes. Boer points to line one.
