It was Hitler’s ability to make group identity salient within the Aryan German population, the transformation of his ideas to ideology, and his deep hatred for the Jews that ultimately led to the Holocaust. Although Anti-Semitism was already present within German society before Hitler rose to power, he was the actor that enacted policies against Jews and what ultimately led to the Final Solution Hitler was successful in activating a group identity within the German population when he associated Jews as the enemy and Aryans as the dominant race who would save the world from the Jews. By making the Aryan Germans group identity salient he created an in-group/out-group relationship between the Aryans and the Jews. This in-group/out-group relationship leads to group bias which affects how people perceive others that are not part of their group. By cultivating the idea that the Jews were different than the Aryans, Hitler was able to successfully create a divide between
Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf (My Struggle) dwells on his views on the significance of race in culture and social systems, and particularly on his perception of the role of Aryans and Jews in culture creation and destruction. In order to bring together and gain support from the majority of the nation Hitler praises the mythical importance of Aryan race,... ... middle of paper ... ...ent. Riefenstahl's shooting of the film brings out not only the spoken content of the Nazi mythology, but also expresses their ideals through heavy visual imagery. Clearly in the beginning of the movie we observe the birth of a myth when a serious and gloomy atmosphere surrounds the mythic message with the titles, “16 years after the German woe began...” then changes to an uplifting mood when the titles say, “19 months after the beginning of Germany's rebirth...” We sense almost unbearable tension of anticipation as represented through the music and the lighting, later the tone of the music gets somewhat subdued and turns into something dreamy, mystical while we see the billowing clouds. When the silhouette of Nuremberg appears through the clouds the music turns into the Nazi anthem, which continues while we see the shadow of the plane over the marching columns of storm troopers.
Hitler also realised that democracy was failing and locked into this by creating a preference of order over freedom policy, he made it clear that Germany needed a leader, a dictator. One of Hitler's other objectives was to overturn the Versailles Treaty. He made this no secret, and the German people were attracted to this aim. With this Hitler managed to say that Marxists and Jews were a threat, that they were the criminals who signed the Treaty. People were convinced and manipulated to believe this, and so gave one of Hitler's aims more support, which was getting rid of Jews, Marxists and Communists.
The Nazis encouraged German culture and tried to ensure that all Germans were physically and mentally fit to an Aryan ideal. In order to achieve these goals, the Nazi regime despised books and paintings that were not ideal to Germany, cleaned physically and mentally disabled people, and enslaved and murdered millions of people who were considered enemies of the state. The emblem of Nazism, the swastika, symbolized this type of rebirth and destruction. German propaganda identified the swastika with the rising sun and with rebirth because the bars of the symbol suggest perpetual rotation. To its innumerable victims, however, the swastika came to signify cruelty, death, and terror.
“The modern German anti-Semitism was based on racial ideology which stated that the Jews were subhuman while the “Aryan” race was ultimately superior,” ("Nazi Propaganda"): (Goebbels)“I beg you and particularly those of you who carry the cross throughout the land to become somewhat more serious when I speak of the enemy of the German people, namely, the Jew, ("Nazi Propaganda"). “Streicher declared: "You must realize that the Jew wants our people to perish. That is why you must join us and leave those who have brought you nothing but war, inflation, and discord",” ("Nazi Propaganda"). “We know that Germany will be free when the Jew has been excluded from the life of the German people,” ("Ministry Of Public Enlightenment"). After Goebbels 's started to target the Jew’s with mean propaganda: It made blaming Jews a lot easier for Germany’s
Hitler and his Nazi counterparts faced the daunting task of transforming the country’s misfortunes into precipitating circumstances through policies of being racially different from all traditional parties focusing on concepts of Volksgeimschaft meaning harmonious national community and creating Lebensraum meaning living space for the master race. These were to influence all areas of German existence. This answer will endeavour to assert how Hitler recreated German economy and society while subordinating the nation to a war of racial supremacy. In order to do so effectively it is essential to analyse and compare conditions of the Weimar German regime to that of the control under Nazi Government, also to examine the origins of the Nazi party relating to their ideologies while also ensuring to make reference to the Anti-Sematic nature of Hitler himself. During Hitler’s reign, policies were designed to bring every feature of people’s lives under Nazi control.
According to Annette T. Rottenberg’s The Structure of Argument, “if [a] writer makes a statement that assumes that the very question being argued has already been proved, [that] writer is guilty of begging the question” (291). Hitler proudly states, “All the human culture, all the results of art, science, and technology that we see before us today, are almost exclusively the creative product of the Aryan” (300). This statement, which he presents as if it is fact, is most certainly not true. He uses this fallacy to promote his agenda. He wants to take out the competition, most specifically the Jews, so that the Aryan race can dominate Germany and eventually the world.
The basis of Nazi thinking was a crude form of Social Darwinism, which initiated the basis of the ideology of the Nazi Party and the influence of racism. Hitler justified that nature was cruel and that only the fittest would survive. Anti-Semitism was adopted as the official ideology of the German Christian Social Workers Party, which was one of the influences of racism that impacted on Nazism. The three main principle ideas of Nazism included Blut (blood), the German state should compromise only those of ‘Pure German Blood’, also known as Aryans. Volk (community), all German people should... ... middle of paper ... ...he acknowledges the Nazi state was less organised than outward appearances suggest, Bracher believes this was largely due to Hitler, who intentionally created multiple departments and encouraged competing interests.
Hitler saw a Jewish world conspiracy and held absolute conviction that the Jews were responsible for all the evils that had befallen Germany – defeat of in war, revolution, economic collapse and Marxism. But abo... ... middle of paper ... ...ak, that superior races prevail over inferior races. This concept with its theme of struggle and survival of the fittest appealed to Hitler. “Struggle” wrote Hitler “is the father of all things…He who wants to live must fight and who does not want to fight in this world where external struggle is the law of life has no right to exist”*. In Mein Kamph Hitler offered some insight into his thinking on exercise of power and in particular the important role of propaganda, his contempt of parliamentary democracy and the Weimar Republic.
Nazi Germany with Adolf Hitler at the helm was a major threat to the world when Hitler brought the country to prominence. Hitler transformed Germany from a depression-wracked country into a major military power. Externally, Hitler went on major conquests in order to bring Germany to power. Within Nazi Germany, he attempted to create a super race of people and wanted to do so by eliminating all inferior races starting with the Jews. In the midst of this action, the United States attempted to prevent any association with the ongoing war.
