Racism and racial inequality plays an important role in black homicide rates. When comparing the homicide rates between whites and people of color. One will see that the homicide rate for non-whites has always been much higher than those who aren’t of color. In order to understand why is there a difference in homicide rates between non-whites (blacks & Hispanics) and those who are white, many people tend to look at The Ferguson effect. The Ferguson effect is a hypothesis which basically states that after a police in Ferguson, Missouri killed Michael Brown there has been an increase in crime rates. The article “Black Lives Matter? 2016 Chicago Homicides Surge 57% to 762” written by John Nolte states “While no one will argue that a small number of police officers have been responsible for some tragic and unjustified shootings, there is also no question that the response from the national media, President Obama, and Black Lives Matter has been hysterical, dishonest, and an act of mercenary partisanship” (Nolte 1). In this article Nolte premise is that the black lives movements are just a way to make white people look bad, because of the fact that black on black crime is at a higher rate than interracial killings. His view differs from mines because John Nolte believes that the black homicides rates are high because they (people of color) tend to commit more crimes. In addition, he notes that law enforcement has one job which is to reduce crime rates. I disagree with Nolte article because yes statistics shows that the black homicides rates are higher, especially when we are looking at black on black crime. But, Nolte ignores that fact that minorities are targeting by the criminal justice system. He also ignores the fact that a good amount of minorities are being forced to live under the conditions they are living under because the inequality that still exist in our
