Racism is defined as the belief that one race posses something better or more superior than another race. Racism and Racial Discrimination has been around for 2 Centuries. It started off in medieval times. Often rulers would be Prejudice or would have Racial Assumptions point toward a peasant because of his/her appearance or wealth. From there slavery took over. During MOST of the 19th century, and all of the 20th century, slavery ruled. If you were “colored” a termed used for African American, you were thought of as less than trash. African Americans faced 4 of the 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They faced Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Harassment and Systematic Racism.
What is Racial Discrimination? Nowadays people don’t even know because they don’t take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. There are 7 most common types of Racial Discrimination. They are Prejudice, Racial Assumptions, Racial Jokes/Slurs, Discrimination, Harassment, Systematic or other times called Institutional Racism and Micro-Inequalities. Let me explain these seven a little more for you.
Prejudice, this is the behavior of individuals basing their superiority by their racial or physical characteristics. Racial Assumptions, these are the quiet assumptions that we hold on other races. Such as you think because he is black he is a hoodlum or loves fried chicken. Or because he is Chinese he is very good in math or has squinty eyes.

Nowadays people don’t even know about Racial Discriminations affect on us now because they don’t take the time to learn about one of the biggest threats to our society as a whole. It is vitally important that we start paying attention to our surroundings and it would actually be better if we could do something about it. You see it every day, black on black violence. We tear each other apart for what? Street creditability? Money? Popularity? All things that is irrelevant. We need more love in the world. Stereotypes are overgeneralizations; they often involve assuming a person has certain characteristics based on unfounded assumptions. We stereotype people based on how they look in terms of sexual orientation, gender, race, and ethnicity.

"Discrimination" means unequal treatment. One of the most common elements discriminated against is a persons ethnicity, or their race. This is called Racial Discrimination. While there are many federal laws concerning discrimination, most states have enacted laws that prohibit it. These laws may have different remedies than the federal laws and may, in certain circumstances be more favorable than the federal laws.
Proper education of employees and management teams can help combat this. George N. Root III of Demand Media, author of How do I Prevent Discrimination in the Workplace, as published in the Houston Chronicle Small Business section (Root, n.d.) makes several suggestions on how businesses can take steps to combat and avoid discrimination in the workplace. He suggests working with a business attorney who has experience in discrimination policies to develop a comprehensive discrimination policies and procedures manual for employees. He also suggests that this manual should be gone over with management staff, explaining the policies, encouraging questions, and having them sign a form saying they took the training and understand it. He also recommends that employees be required to review the manual and attend quarterly training on discrimination in the workplace. They too should sign a form saying that they took the training and understand it. The top three are disparate treatments, disparate impact, and racially hostile work environment. Disparate treatment is one of the most common. This means that a person who was in a similar/same situation was treated differently because of their race, gender, age, and other personal dealings. When dealing with disparate impact, it can be very tricky to prove your case. Disparate impact is when an owner states that you have to have a certain degree to work in their workplace. This degree can be as simple as a high school degree. The degree that everyone is supposed to have, affects one racial group over another. Is so, then this could be a case of disparate impact. The last type of racial discrimination in the workplace is racially hostile work environment.
