Introduction It is important to realize that even though it is the 21st century, United States of America is not a post-racial society. A post-racial society is considered to be “a society free from racial prejudice, discrimination, and oppression” (Adams et al., 57). The reason I state that it is not post-racial is because racism, discrimination, prejudices, and oppression occurs every day. Although racism and discrimination does not have as much public support as it once did, it is still evident. Since there is not as much public tolerance for either issues, people may hide their racist or discriminatory beliefs. This country has changed many laws and regulations, but that is only written things. People can change the laws, people can change the written rules, but what people need to change are the unwritten rules. People need to change themselves and the beliefs they pass on to their family members. Future generations will not change because older generations continue to pass on their negative, discriminatory, judgmental, racist beliefs. Hatred and evil cannot be stopped overnight, people need to come together and stop their actions. Written laws can only change so much, it takes the people to change themselves. I have learned that media can really change people’s views on different topics. I do not think it is right that media has the right to change stories to benefit themselves and potentially ruin other peoples’ lives. Also, I need to inform myself more about United States history and current issues. I watch the news, but I do not give as much attention to politics or anything else that I think is boring or irrelevant to my life. The sad part is, most of that stuff is somehow important to me, even though I do not realize
