I’m going to shed more light on a topic that has been brought into the spotlight in the last five years. This is racial profiling by the police. Racial profiling has always been around, but with events in the last five years it has become even more of a problem than before. Racial profiling is when police,security guards, or airport security target people because of race. Cops assume certain people do a certain crime because of race. Such as in Chicago the City Council cut back on marijuana laws. So, cops can issue tickets for the possession of 15 grams of marijuana, and can make an arrest if they need. seventy percent of tickets were issued to African-Americans, eighteen percent was to Hispanics, and Eleven were to Caucasians. Racial profiling is one of the biggest if not the biggest reason why racism is still around. The people who said that America is in the “post-racial era” haven’t played an online game of Call of Duty. Several people have reported that they have been bombarded by a storm of racial slurs being screamed at them by kids as little as twelve, assuming age by tone of voice, (community.callofduty.com). There are several NFL players that hear or say racial slurs. Like last year Riley Cooper almost got kicked out of the league for saying the n-word, but it’s not just in sports. Just one month ago a substitute teacher in Chicago called several kids a racial slur many times. some kids left crying. The worst part is the kids were in eighth-grade. America has come leaps and bounds from where it was one hundred years ago when it comes to racial profiling. one thing that is helping is the End Racial Profiling act which clearing states what racial profiling is and makes racial profiling illegal.
