The American education system is faced with many challenges and there is a need for appropriate and effective measures to deal with it. Although, the government and other stakeholders have tried to come up with plans to tackle these challenges, these plans have not assisted in improving the level of education. Moreover, the federal role in the education sector is limited and majority of policies relating to education is decided at the local and state levels. Education system in the United States is decentralized and is, therefore, under the custodian of various states. This has resulted in poor standards of education because some states have implemented educational regulations which are biased and ineffective. This means that some states will …show more content…

However, various states have different level of social status and some states are wealthier while others are poorer. Because of this kind of policy, public schools in states which are wealthier will get more funding while public schools from poorer states will get limited funding. The result is that some schools are able to get adequate funding, which enables them to acquire enough learning materials, have spacious learning classes and good environment for students to learn in. In contrast, public schools in poorer states will not receive adequate financial resources and this means that they will not be able to meet their learning requirements (Sailor, 2002). The overall negative effect of this is the racial inequality in education system because most of non-white students are found in poorer states. According to the president, national education standards are what is needed to improve the education standards in the country. The supporters of national education standards say that having smaller number and clear benchmarks and effective educational assessment will enhance the level of education. They continue by saying that this system will enable parents to have information concerning what their children need to know and the skills required of them. When parents are empowered with information, they will make schools to be responsible for their results and therefore, each school will strive to do their best and come up with the required performance. For educational testing, it will ensure that school going children become ready to join colleges and even enter the working force.
