The key to successful crime prevention relies on the collaborative efforts between police and communities. Their relationship determines how effective policing will be. Nonetheless, unfortunate affiliation has led communities to mistrust and fear them.
Law enforcement agencies have encountered countless issues regarding the community’s height of respect. However, this means we must establish and implement new policies accordingly. Though it will only be effective if both police and citizens come to a mutual understanding. In the city of Ferguson, MO such issues exist. Due to racial disparities, their community has become scarred. “Too many young men of color feel targeted by law enforcement — guilty of walking while black or driving while black, judged by stereotypes that fuel fear and resentment and hopelessness” (Superville). The city supposes that color has much to do with issues involving police. In an article unfolding the Fergusons issues, Obama stated that “black girls are more likely than their white peers to be suspended, jailed and physically harassed, and that black women struggle daily with "biases that perpetuate oppressive standards for how they're supposed to look and how they're supposed to act.” (Superville). It is clearly evident in this case that race is vital and is used to distinguish the overall population. Which will later help characterize and narrow down the focus of the community. Next we will focus on the levels of concern. We will ask the community several questions relating to the issues they recognize. Questions of concern will incorporate feelings regarding their own safety, juvenile delinquency, gang violence, drug distribution and several others. This will give police and agencies a better understanding of the issues they must tend to. In addition, the uncertainties of the community will also advise agencies of ways to better assist public
