R.L Stine, my author, was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 8, 1943. His father is Lewis Stine, his mother is Anne Stine, and his spouse is Jane Waldhorn.However, Stine’s family called him Bob. He classified himself as the fearful child. Stine and Jane had one child together. His name is Matthew. He went to be a musician, and a designer. Stine began writing with an old typewriter he found in his basement when he was 9 years old. He started writing stories and jokes. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher begins when Clay Jensen receives seven audiotapes recorded by Hannah Baker, a girl from his town who recently killed herself. According to Hannah, each person on her tapes is a reason for her suicide. Clay is on the tapes, yet doesn’t see why. He has to listen to figure it out. When Clay finally gets to his tape, it is exposed that he wasn’t actually blamed for her suicide. Clay realizes that even though he didn't do anything bad to Hannah, he let rumors stand in the way of their budding relationship. Clay could have made a positive difference in Hannah’s life and hopefully prevented her suicide. Clay's possible role in Hannah's is hard for Clay to comprehend. He knows Hannah did this to her self, but is angry because he didn't do anything to stop her. Clay who’s normally calm gets so mad; he punches a fence and cuts his hand. Clay after staying up all night listening to the tapes brings himself to school the next day, realizing he cant hide the rest of his life and reaches out to another girl, Skye Miller. He does this hoping to keep her from the same fate of Hannah.

The reason for this is his ability to fuse the gothic elements created by stories such as Dracula or Frankenstein and todays horror. King has written hundreds of short stories but two in-particular “The Night Flier” and “Popsy” show his unique ability to combined gothic elements from the old literature with realistic settings and people of our era. One of his greater talents is being able to use gothic element like vampires and make us see them in a different light. Kings unique way of writing with his old gothic ideals, new horror ideas, and use of realistic settings help to put a new spin on what we conceive as gothic story.

Robert Edmund Cormier was a well-known columnist, author and reporter. He was born on January 17, 1925 in Leominster, Massachusetts to Irma and Lucien Cormier. He was the second of eight children and enjoyed spending time with his family. Family was always more important than fame or fortune to Cormier. Hard work and commitment led him to jobs that helped prepare him to be an excellent writer.
