Quotes are one of my favorite forms of artistic expression. Every culture has its own collection of quotes, wise sayings and proverbs. They offer paraphrased advice about life and also provide some underlying ideas, principles and values of a given society. The mechanism of a quote involves putting two meanings of the sentence in its original use and as a new context. Quotes are often used to achieve comic or ironic effect. They frequently become a form of a freedom of speech. During the time of censorship the author uses figurative language to express social or political beliefs, hidden ridicule and occasionally express criticism. Sometimes they inspire me and make me deliberate. A quote by C.S. Lewis made me question my honesty and moral principles in aspects of everyday life. Few weeks ago my boyfriend celebrated his 34th birthday. We went out to a very elegant waterside restaurant “The Water Club” located on the East River. The restaurant is situated on a boat, which makes the place very romantic and intimate. We got the table next to the massive window with a beautiful sweeping view of the river. The dining room was open with high ceiling. The lighting was dim and pleasant. Maritime decoration and wooden furniture were set up to make everyone feel comfortable with room and privacy. We both ordered the Captain’s Special Cocktail. The drinks were slightly mellow but very refreshing with a sweet flavor backed by hints of bitter lemon; we followed that with crisped shrimp in spicy Thai sauce as an appetizer and fresh Maine lobster as a main dish. The whole experience was a unique and upscale treat and we expected a hefty bill. When we received our check, I immediately noticed it wasn’t ours. No matter how small and imperceptible the choice may seem at the time, it may start a path that damage your moral compass, guide you to commit more serious misdeeds. Building a reputation of integrity takes years, but it takes only a second to lose it. Integrity means doing the right thing at all times and in all situations, whether or not anybody is watching. It takes courage to do the right thing, no matter what the consequences will be. Being true to yourself, your morals, beliefs, and values is significant on the religious perspective. Integrity is how you decide to live, act and behave even when nobody is around to see you. In your lifetime you’ll be faced with decisions only you can make. Only you can decide how to live your life, and the decisions you make defines you.
