Questioning Is Important For Quality Leadership
Questions allow the leader and their team the opportunity to plan effectively and properly analyze the goals of the team. During the beginning stages preparing for a project, a leader and their team must ask each other questions that pertain to the project, so that their goals they set for the project will be accomplished. When I think of questions pertaining to a team project I see them as a building block or foundation, one that will help create a quality plan leading to a successful project.
Questioning in the planning stages empowers all team members a chance to voice their diverse opinions, which helps create a solid plat form to build your project upon (Leadership & Direction, 1997). When all team members are actively involved in the planning of the project they will be much more likely to want to achieve the goals of the leader, as they will feel like they are a significant piece of the team. When team members realize that their questions and ideas matter in formulating a successful project, they are more willing to give it their best effort.
This boost in self confidence will make them want the project to be successful as they will be more inclined to follow the leader's plan, because they want to accept the leaders plan not because they were told to give their best efforts and accept that plan. As Dwight D. Eisenhower would say, "Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he or she wants to do it" (Module 5 Lecture Pages, n.d.). This, along with proper communication will allow the leader to address any questions or resolve any conflicts that may arise. Questions and conflicts are inevitable within any team. Although, conflicts and questions during the process of the project can become beneficial to the overall success of the team. The team can learn how to better communicate as well as how to ask better questions, ensuring future conflicts will stay to a minimum (module 5 lecture pages, n.d.).

This means the collaborative leadership approach can produce better ideas and more creative ideas. The team the team will feel involved in the process and like they are actually needed. Let’s look at how asking questions impact the success of project. By team members asking questions it says two things. First it says the team members are actually paying attention and interested. The second indicates that the team members want to do what is asked of them. Questions asked by team members helps to clarify any unknown factor, confusion over the directions, and about possible limitations that may be placed on the group. Also, questions can cause good conflict that can lead to great ideas. Even before the team starts the project, asking questions like who, what when, where, and why can help improve the success of the project. By asking the five w’s it can help eliminate obstacles and help ensure the proper supplies are ready for the team members (Clark 2013).

People work in groups or teams everyday whether in their career, education, political organization, church, or any other social setting. Conflict while working in teams or groups is inevitable. When taking people of different backgrounds, personalities, moral, and ethical beliefs and putting them together in a group, conflict will arise. The key to achieving your team goals is to construct and conquer your goals with keeping the greater good of the team in mind. Conflict as it arises should be combated and abated through swift and thorough resolution techniques. When dealt with properly conflict resolution can give rise to a cohesive and productive team.
To start off on the right path, the team must understand what they are working towards. They must be committed to work hard in order to accomplish their goals. Each member should have expectations from everyone and themselves as part of the team.
There are many different benefits to having diverse dynamics within a team. Communication seems to be the key to making the dynamics of a team work. A team is very much an interpersonal relationship with many potential benefits as well as pitfalls. The dynamics can often cause conflict within that team which can negatively affect the team's performance. It is common for people on a team to try to ignore or bury problems due to a desire to not create a scene. This can be very destructive because the issues do not get resolved. There are some specific steps that can be taken to resolve that conflict. When it comes to resolving an issue, the methods of doing so can be as dynamic as the team itself.
Leaders can show confidence in many ways. Showing confidence in the project and the benefits it will bring to the organization can influence how the team views the tasks. A leader who is confident in themselves can show the team they have someone who can guide them. Showing Confidence in employees will raise their esteem and their attitude toward the tasks they perform.
Effective communication encompasses many concepts. For a leader to be effective, one must be able to build relationships between different parties. In order to build a good rapport, one must be able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of those involved, and within oneself. Acknowledging these differences will allow for a better collaboration between team members. A leader must also have the ability to put conflict resolution theories into practice. Allowing differing points of view may challenge the original idea and will make for a more thorough decision making process. Although this may seem counterproductive, it actually ensures the best possible outcome. One must be consistent in the message presented yet be flexible, approachable and maintain a positive attitude. Allowing for different perspectives to be heard will allow team members to feel valued. This flexibility helps to solidify the concept that everyone is in this together; thus establishing an environment where all team members can have a buy-in. Can a leader achieve great results without asking questions? In most, if not all scenarios the answer is a resounding “no”. As management theorist Peter Drucker (2011) said, “The leader of the past was a person who knew how to tell; the leader of the future will be a person who knows how to ask.” (p. 1). Possessing the capability to determine which questions to examine as well as when to ask them will yield direct benefits for project’s leader. Among these benefits is constructing a project plan which runs smoothly and which encounters the smallest number of potential occurrences that could deter or abolish it.
As I develop my team I am looking for the challenges and norms that the forming, storming and norming stages of team development will possibly experience. The focus of this theory is to become a more effective team. Following through with these stages we can become an effective team, however the challenges and norms we will face normally most teams go through. Starting out with forming my team we will face a few challenges as we begin orienting ourselves and becoming familiar with each other. With different personalities coming together there may be some biased perceptions that may cloud the members ' judgement of one another. A challenge that we face has to do with different aspects of each member 's personality, skills and setting the terms as to what needs to happen when making decisions as a team. This first stage is crucial because of the manner of getting to know who you will be working with and recognizing everyone 's goals to see if you all fit together; it is like building a puzzle. However excruciating this may sound, creative minds can sometimes make great decisions and other times can bump heads and unfortunately waste time when trying to make decisions to accomplish the work.
