Coming from a noble family in Kingdom, Hungary, no one really knows why she went out of her way torture hundreds of women. Either way throughout about a 20 year time span, Bathory spent her time not only ruling multiple castles, but taking in innocent women and children of the local men and women and making them her own. “Bathory and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of young women between 1585 and 1610” (Wikipedia 1).

Playwright Sarah Ruhl takes the myth of Eurydice and attempts to transform this sad tale into a more light-hearted story. However, despite humorous lines and actions throughout the play, the melancholy situation of the actual tale overwhelms any comicality present. Although meant to be funny, Sarah Ruhl's “Eurydice” can be seen as a modernized tragedy about two lovers who are separated forever by a twist of fate.

Emilia and Jocasta both unknowingly end their own lives, as well as others, and spread tragedy throughout the towns in which they lived. It is believed that in 425 B.C., Sophocles first produced Oedipus the King (Theater of Sophocles). In the play, Oedipus the King, Jocasta is the main character, Oedipus’, mother and wife. Jocasta’s love for Oedipus ultimately destroys him and results in her death. Sophocles helped shape the heroic ideal that is later embodied in medieval romance, which Shakespeare traditionally uses in Othello (Zerba). William Shakespeare wrote Othello in about 1604 (The Theater of Shakespeare). In the play, Othello, Emilia is a companion to the main character, Othello’s wife Desdemona. Emilia’s love for her husband, Iago, ultimately destroys Othello and results in her own death.
It is said that what we value can be determined only by what we sacrifice. In the play “King Lear”, multiple characters sacrificed things that were important to them. A character that sacrificed a lot in the play was Edgar because he basically gave up his entire life, and that shows his values as a person.
Hatred, in Shakespeare’s Othello, destroyed the lives of so many innocent people, creating an atmosphere of fear and mayhem. Jealousy turned into a deep hatred, and liberated the "beast in man" (Bloom's major dramatists).This mayhem caused a substantial amount of destruction and led to the demise of many.
Near the middle of the story we see Mary exhibit her bad sinister character; her personality and feelings suddenly change when she murders her own husband by hitting him at the back of the head with a frozen lamb leg. After denying all of Mary’s helpful deeds, Patrick told her to sit down so that he can tell her something serious; the story doesn’t tell us what he says to her but Mary suddenly changes after he tells her something, her “instinct was not to believe any of it” (Dahl 2). She just responded with “I’ll get the supper” (Dahl 2) and felt nothing of her body except for nausea and a desire to vomit. She went down the cellar, opened the freezer, grabbed a frozen leg of lamb, went back upstairs, came behind Patrick, and swung the big leg of lamb as hard as she could to the back of his head killing him. William Shakespeare’s tragic play King Lear is a well-plotted play about obsession of power and land, blindness, and sacrifices for the restoration of the kingdom. King Lear has split his three kingdoms amongst his three daughters; Goneril, Regan, Cordelia, however, Cordelia refused his offer and she spoke the truth and Lear has disowned her. Lear blindly trusted the two daughters but Cordelia. However, this character Cordelia is a significant character through the play, her name means the "heavenly queen" and the word "heart". This character also shows how she can be a Christ-like figure. Cordelia can be a Christ-like figure through her actions, suffering and her righteous path. Furthermore, this significant character shows that she is similar to Christ through her actions and righteous acts.
