Document VII Elizabeth was a young slave girl, who at the age of thirteen converts to the Lord. The Lord then speaks to the Elizabeth, telling her to spread his world to be saved from Hell. During the religious revivals of the eighteenth and nineteenth enslaved women became converts. They found strength in their religion, from God, and continued on through his will. As Elizabeth’s mother said “nobody in the wide world to look to but God”, many must have found solace in the fact that he was the only one capable of judging them. All of the points the ministers made were why it was that women did not possess much power in a religious view. One minister had made a pointed out if Christ had intended to give women rights he would have done it before he had died. Sojourner having stated back, “He says women can’t have as much right as men, ‘cause Christ wasn’t a women! Whar did Christ come from?” (Aint I, pg. 2). That Christ had been born by a woman and had nothing to do with men at all. In a later speech she had stated,” the Bible says, sons and daughters ought to behave themselves before their mothers, but they don’t I’m watching…” (What time of night is it?). Many slave women had served as maid hands to young misters and misses of the plantation owners. They had served as second mothers to these children most of the time neglecting their own children. Catherine the Great, really was a great ruler. I think that overall, she was trying to be very fair to everybody. In 1773 Catherine the Great had an edict called “Toleration of All Faiths.” With this edict I thought she was showing how everybody should be treated fair by tolerating free practice of people’s faith. However, the main purpose she did this was she thought it was a good way to pacify frontier territory. Then there were some instances such as how she treated the Jews and when she attacked the privileges of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was not tolerating all faiths. Putting that instance behind though I think that she really was aware of what her duties were and what she was supposed to do. She made it very clear in her law code that the End of Monarchy was to “Not to deprive People of their natural Liberty; but to correct their Actions, in order to attain the supreme Good.”
The second Great Awakening led to the belief of hope in the slaves lives to eventually escape the horrors of the South. Harriet Jacobs believed that Christianity was used by masters to reason their wrongdoings and prevent people from mobilizing emancipation of the slaves. The plantation owners allowed ministers to go into the slave quarters to teach them religion in the hope they would show them to love God, and obey masters, but instead they got that God keeps score and we should find our “Promise land of our emancipation (Vaught Lecture 20). Harriet Jacobs grew up valiant as, “ She was usually very quiet in her demeanor; but if her indignation was once roused, it was not very easily quelled.” (Jacobs Page 54). This assesses how she was different once again by possessing a passion of not being submissive and having her own voice. The words that came out of religious talks gave her an idea of how wrong slavery was religiously as well as morally. Religion is effective in mobilizing the women because it allows women to have the hope and belief that they are greater and can endure the pain together through God’s grace.The plantation owners who have used religion on the basis of God made everyone this way. “Line of Color, Sex, and Service: Sexual Coercion in the Early Republic” is a publication that discusses two women, Rachel Davis and Harriet Jacobs. This story explains the lives of both Rachel and Harriet and their relationship between their masters. Rachel, a young white girl around the age of fourteen was an indentured servant who belonged to William and Becky Cress. Harriet, on the other hand, was born an enslaved African American and became the slave of James and Mary Norcom. This publication gives various accounts of their masters mistreating them and how it was dealt with.

For the women of the Elizabethan Era they, to be considered a good person in society had to uphold the common notion of the gender stereotypes. The mediocre way in which they lived had no option of achieving a high position in society in general. They were almost puppeteered by the male population, discriminated even by the very notions that today we expect to hold equality in high esteem such as law and religion.
During the eighteenth and nineteenth-century, notions of freedom for Black slaves and White women were distinctively different than they are now. Slavery was a form of exploitation of black slaves, whom through enslavement, lost their humanity and freedom, and were subjected to dehumanizing conditions. African women and men were often mistreated through similar ways, especially when induced to labor, they would eventually become a genderless individual in the sight of the master. Despite being considered “genderless” for labor, female slaves suddenly became women who endured sexual violence. Although a white woman was superior to the slaves, she had little power over the household, and was restricted to perform additional actions without the consent of their husbands. The enslaved women’s notion to conceive freedom was different, yet similar to the way enslaved men and white women conceived freedom. Black women during slavery fought to resist oppression in order to gain their freedom by running away, rebel against the slaveholders, or by slowing down work. Although that didn’t guarantee them absolute freedom from slavery, it helped them preserve the autonomy and a bare minimum of their human rights that otherwise, would’ve been taken away from them. The History of Mary Prince is the story of the first female British slave to escape slavery. The book is told by Mary herself, and was used to help the anti-slavery movement. This book is the main source of information on Mary’s life, but there is no way to ensure that all of it is authentic. One should be aware of who truly had the control over this book, and how it may have affected whether or not all of the stories Mary had to tell got in. Without following the standard expected of her, she may not have ever been able to share her experiences like this. Mary Prince was able to convey her story of slavery to others by following the expectations set by the Antislavery Society, such as emphasizing Christianity, only including likable character
In conclusion, women were considered property and slave holders treated them as they pleased. We come to understand that there was no law that gave protection to female slaves. Harriet Jacob’s narrative shows the true face of how slaveholders treated young female slave. The female slaves were sexually exploited which damaged them physically and psychologically. Furthermore it details how the slave holder violated the most sacred commandment of nature by corrupting the self respect and virtue of the female slave. Harriet Jacob writes this narrative not to ask for pity or to be sympathized but rather to show the white people to be aware of how female slaves constantly faced sexual exploitation which damaged their body and soul.

(Frears, 2006) Through the course of this paper, I will analyze her resistance to change, her reliance on others in her decision-making process, and the roles Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Prime Minister Tony Blair played in the week between the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and her funeral. However, there is no denying that the stigma is carried with women into the present day. Women’s position in society can be greatly attributed to their depiction in religious text. Holy word is still a factor in making women more susceptible, more culpable, and more sinful an impure than men. Even as women move up in the social order, religion is timeless and ever bearing on the struggle women fight for sexual equality.
The stories about women in the bible illustrate the importance of their role and contribution to society. Women were slaves, concubines, and child bearers; they were also wives, matriarchs, and prophets. Although, some women had less important titles than others each served a purpose. Even if the Bible does not explain God’s relationship with women as with Moses and other prophets, it illustrates the love and dedication women had for Him. The scriptures describe brave, nurturing, and God fearing women whose decisions impacted the existence of the Israelites.
