Topic of Introduction The purpose of a field experience is for one to understand that certain communities are prone to health problems. People living in inner-city, low socioeconomic status communities are at risk for developing health problems such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Contributors to these health problems can be an environmental factor such as lack of health care facilities, abundant fast-food restaurants yet scarce quality supermarkets, and inadequate funding for educational programs. The activity of the day was “Simon-Says” with the selected music from one of the colleague’s smartphones. After the students were done eating lunch, they approached the stage site of the cafeteria and joined the activity. Each student was expected to move when first asked “Simon Says.” If students did not follow Simon’s command, they were eliminated. The author’s role was to be “Simon” by facilitating the commands of what students must do. Her role helped promote the SNACK 2.0 program’s mission, in implementing and encouraging healthy lifestyles, because research shows that “Simon Says” helps with motor coordination and inhibitory control (i.e. the ability to listen to instructor’s rules). Movement through dance can teach children how to manage and cope with different situations, such as adjusting to a new social environment and even problem solving (Lorenzo-Lasa et al., 2007). “Simon Says” is an example of a physical activity that advocates a healthy lifestyle. There was 100% participation of all second and third graders, which helped met SNACK 2.0 goal for the day.
