THE CASE: A 7-year-old girl with autism was turned away by the mall santa in Mission Viejo, California last week because he was allegedly afraid of her service dog. The girl and her parents waited in line for over a half hour in anticipation to meet santa and sit on his lap. When the Santos Family approached santa, the young girl and her service dog were not received well and were turned away. The Santos family has had “Pup-cake”, the girls service dog, for many years and have never encountered a problem like this. The day of the incident, the Santo’s family posted a photo of their daughter upset after being turned down by mall santa via Facebook through their “Pup-Cake the Service Dog” page. Under the image that quickly went viral, the following statements were made by the family: -“The face of a girl santa refused to see because “those dogs eat people” -“ (against the law)” -“After the laws were explained, Santa suddenly became allergic” A family friend of the Santos Family, made a statement to ABC news regarding Pup-Cake the service dog. “The dog is not a breed when it is a service animal. The first action taken within the mall, amongst the apology release, was to question the mall santa and the people around him when the incident occurred. The man claimed he was “allergic to the dog” but when the Santo’s family offered to have the dog removed outside, he still didn’t allow the young girl to sit on his lap, according to the Orange County Register.
