The Great Depression changed lives for the worst. After the stock market crash people lost money and unemployment raised to over 20%. This caused people to have no jobs and not able to support their families. If they didn't have work then they couldn't eat anything because they couldn't afford it. This happened because stocks dropped and businesses closed resulting in job elimination. Some things that allowed people to live without jobs were things the government set up. First they gave banks time to fix issues and Roosevelt gave fireside chats to reassure confidence. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation then insured the banks giving people faith that money would be safe and not all lost. The government also set up programs. The Public Works Administration provided jobs for unemployed by building things like bridges and power plants. Social Security also allowed elderly and disabled to have income allowing them not to be so …show more content…

I think that as a President it is your responsibility to help people who are struggling because of unemployment or disabilities. I think that by creating services that are helpful can help get people on the right track. I do understand what his opponents said and think that not everything should be handed to them because what would be the sense of work. I think that there needed to be help just not as much regarding handing them things. By using Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corporation it allowed people to get jobs, which was highly needed and made them work for things through opportunities. Although some may argue these allowed people to be lazy, I believe that they gave people opportunities and allowed them to support their families. These programs allowed them to get jobs and to have something to do. Because of this I think the ideas of Roosevelt were good just as long as they were not helping to
