Psychology is the study of a person’s behavior while Christianity influences you how to behave by living in Godly principles. Truth can be found in psychology because it expounds on the ways humans behave the ways they do. Christianity is also found to be true because it’s the Word of God. God designed human beings to be emotional, physical and mental as spiritual beings. Psychology can be used as a tool to help people understand how to believe in something of a higher power. Considering of what a church’s opinion of psychology is, it totally depends on the church. My church’s thoughts on psychology are that human beings are created in the image of God in order to have fellowship with Him. Even though ever person has extraordinary potential for goodness, everyone is harmed by the attitude of disobedience towards God (which is known as sin). When we sin, we are lightly separated from God. This separation then leads to problems in one’s life. Psychology helps us figure out why problems occur, how to fix them, and understand how the brain works. Isaiah 53:6 says, “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (NIV). Another verse that my church mentions concerning psychology and Christianity is “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, NIV). That is a wonderful verse considering us humans falling short and sinning. We all fall short of the glory of God. Psychology can help us learn why we fall short in those times of sin. I have been so interested in both psychology and Christianity because I recently experienced a traumatic event in my life when I was eighteen years old. I was in a domestic violence relationship for two years. It has affected my emotions and mental state but I have learned that God used that situation for His glory. Now, I am a student pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Liberty and I am more than grateful and blessed that my relationship with God has grown stronger. I believe that I will be a vessel for a young girl that may have been experienced an event similar to mine in the future. Since I have learned a lot about psychology mixed with Christianity, it has made me realize that there is a purpose for the emotions we feel. God uses those emotions for His glory.
