Reflection Paper On Self Esteem

This quarter my practicum took place in a kindergarten classroom with 18 students and 6 students with extreme behavioral issues. My CT explained that she wanted me to work with a student who may not be getting as much attention as the other students in the class. After one week in the classroom, my CT suggested that I worked with a student that we will call K. Once he was assigned as my learning partner, I spent breakfast, most recesses and lunch with him. I tried my best to sit near him at the rug, where most of the class takes place but I often found myself helping out with those students with behavioral issues, in order to support my CT. He is a bit quieter and doesn’t like to answer questions during class. Almost every time that the teacher calls on him to answer a question he passes. From what I have observed throughout the quarter, I think that K knows the information but he is not confident enough to answer. This seems to connect to Erikson’s theory on self-esteem. K knows the information but may have low self-esteem because is concerned about judgments from other students. K is very quiet as I have mentioned but for some reason all of the kids in the classroom love talking and playing with him. For an example, during recess there are always 5 or 6 students that want to play with K. He loves to run and kick a ball around at recess time. K is a kid that other students are drawn to and I found it really interesting because I am not sure why so many students are drawn to him. He seems to be a good influence for the students with behavioral issues which is something to keep in mind when I have my own classroom. To find students who can be good role models for other students in the classroom. This may not connect to a psychological theory but I still found it to be very interesting especially for this specific
