Introduction An empirical article is a research article that reports the results of a study that uses data derived from actual observation or experimentation. The research may use quantitative research methods, which generate numerical data and seek to establish causal relationships between two or more variables. Empirical articles normally contains Introduction, Literature review, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and References (Shuttleworth, 2008). Research questions are tested through experimentation. From hypotheses, predictions about specific events are derived. According to Shuttleworth (2008), “through quantifying the evidence or making sense of it in qualitative form, a researcher can answer empirical questions, which should be clearly defined and answerable with the evidence collected”. Therefore, in the reviewed studies, article 1 clearly states the following hypothesis: • There is an inverse relationship between structural empowerment and burnout. • There is an inverse relationship between psychological empowerment and burnout. • There is a positive relationship between structural empowerment and psychological empowerment. • Psychological empowerment mediates the relationship between structural empowerment and burnout.
