I have learned in this class that diversity is a number of traits that every person has that makes them an individual these traits can be ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, age etc. It is important to stay open with diversity realizing it gives one individuality and is a good thing and people need to become aware of this and keep an open mind.
Not only does diversity celebrate the variety of cultures, attitudes, and beliefs while cultivating equal opportunities, but also has profound influence on enriching individuals ' intellectual and social experiences.
Diversity is defined as “people from differing age groups, genders, ethnic and racial backgrounds, cultural and national origins, and mental and physical capabilities.” (Plunkett, Allen, Attner, 2013).
Diversity refers to the ways people differ from each other. These ways are significant and plentiful. Culturally, people vary in gender, age, ethnicity, race sexual orientation, educational background, religion, lifestyle, as well as veteran and/or immigrant status. Functionally, people vary in the ways we think, learn, process information, respond to authority, show respect and reach agreements (Pollar & Gonzalez, 2011.)
The world is a home to a culturally diverse population. Each culture has their own beliefs, values, and truth that provide us with knowledge and a deeper appreciation of ourselves. We live in the age of Globalization in which culture should not be an issue. Discrimination and Racism plant borders between cultures. Everyone becomes blind to the fact that they are all part of one race, the human race. Differences of color and beliefs should not set us apart from each other, everyone is unique, and these differences should be valued. If it weren’t for these differences, every day would be the same, there would be no new information to learn, nothing to gain. Coming from different backgrounds, everyone wants to be respected and welcomed into new communities, and not excluded. Accepting differences makes a society a home with everyone getting along, bringing balance to the community with freedom and equality.
What is diversity? Diversity is when you have a group of different races and cultures come together in one setting. I think that diversity is something that everyone should be introduced to at some point of his or her life. Diversity is a concept that has played a very important role in my life, especially growing up in a community that wasn’t very diverse and switching to a community that school system embraced diversity to the fullest. By having diversity introduced into my life though out my high school years I was able to expect change as an good thing and realize that race is a physical trait and doesn’t make you who you are, delvop an new thought process and new views and I was able to comfortably interact with people different from myself and make new friends.
"Diversity refers to human qualities that are different from our own and those of groups to which we belong; but that are manifested in other individuals and groups. Dimensions of diversity include but are not limited to: age, ethnicity, gender, physical abilities / qualities, race, sexual orientation, educational background, geographic location, income, marital status, military experience, parental status, religious beliefs, work experience, and job classification." (Foothill-De Anza Community College District, 2015)
The book starts discusses the importance of diversity and its influences on today’s society. The United States has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on diversity. Through training, departmentalizing, resource groups and etc. America has spent a lot of money on trying to bring people together from a diverse background with a sense of common purpose. During the last couple of years America has been trying to create a society, a national identity that compromises with all cultures. America has been known as the mixing pot, diversity has brought forth new ideas and product innovation at lightning harrow ling speeds. From organizations, hospitals, sports teams, the work force, even to our school system diversities being welcomed. Diversity allows us to break out from our normal cultural way of thinking. We allow other ideas and methods to be implicated bringing a stronger foundation to build on. Human beings are creatures of habit and routine. We are so repetitive in the way that we are geographically set to think about certain situations our ability to understand others is tainted. Agility has been the driving force for companies in the last decades; businesse...
What is diversity? Why is it important? Like many other word with multiple meaning, diversity can mean anything to anybody. However, I think diversity is about the different cultures and values contributed to the social and economic values to our society. Moreover, “Cultural diversity is the quality of diverse or different cultures, as opposed to monoculture, as in the global monoculture, or a homogenization of cultures, akin to cult...
The more you expose yourself to diversity, the less ignorant you become. Diversity is beneficial, because it combines new ideas and cultures into a society. It provides people with visions to develop, grow, and change. From the early 1900’s to current times, it is shown that diversity has been widely accepted and has beneficial to today’s society.
