Imagine living on the streets all alone. You need money, and fast. You can’t get a job because that will take too long to get the money you need. You’re desperate and you feel like the only choice is to turn to prostitution. Millions of women and children are engaging in prostitution around the world and it needs to be stopped. Prostitution dates back as far as 2400 BCE in ancient Sumerian and Babylonian civilizations (Sexton). It is defined as the exchange of sex acts for money or something else of value. Many women see it as a last resort to make a lot of money in a short amount of time.
Prostitution affects mostly the women selling their bodies and the men buying it. Prostitution is particularly harmful to the women engaging in it. The men basically purchase the women for a night, and they believe that they can do whatever they please to them. Men can abuse, humiliate, degrade and hurt the woman or child if they want to (Hughes). Yes, I said child. Many children are forced into prostitution, also known as human trafficking. It is almost impossible to talk about one without talking about the other. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, Human Trafficking is defined as organized criminal activity in which human beings are treated as possessions to be controlled and exploited (as by being forced into prostitution or involuntary labor). Human Trafficking is basically forced prostitution. Prostitution is harmful to everyone who partakes in it, we need to get rid of it as soon as possible by outlawing the purchase of it, not prostitution as a whole.
One Solution is to legalize prostitution. If it is legalized brothels can become “business owners” They can pay taxes and legally benefit and make a profit from selling women (Hu...

Society needs to raise awareness of human trafficking and prostitution. Not enough people know what is going on, and this is huge global problem. Then we need to make the purchase of sex illegal, not prostitution as a whole. The women who are caught in the act will be sent to a place for “rescued” sex workers that offer medical care, counseling, and schooling. If women can find a different way to make money, they will stop partaking in prostitution. It’ll be like a form of rehab/free schooling. Women need to realize the dangers they are putting themselves in by selling themselves. This needs to happen so that prostitution will be abolished. It won’t happen overnight, but hopefully if these steps are taken prostitution will die out within the next few generations.
In closing, the argument that the author presents falls weak in most aspects. Though he seems to have positive end results to the issue, the immoral act of prostitution still is part of the solution. As proven before, legal prostitution could lead to an excess of prostitutes that could ruin the appearance of our country, it does not control ones animal-like impulses, but merely lets them run wild, it uses sex as a drug that could lead to an increase of sex ?junkies?, the crime rate could possible increase, rather than decrease, and the spread of STD?s will not be effected positively. The best way to fix the issue of prostitution is to continue fighting it, till eventually the message gets across that prostitution is wrong, and does not lead to a profitable life financially, or morally.
In the United States of America, prostitution is illegal in all of its 50 states with the exception of the state of Nevada. Nevada is the only U.S. state with allows legal prostitution in some of its rural counties. Occupational health and safety laws are applied to the brothels in these counties but the sex workers elsewhere in the country still remain exposed to the threat of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and violence from pimps and customers. Prostitution exists in various forms in the States: street prostitution, escort prostitution, and brothel prostitution (Harcourt). It has been estimated that the sum total of the revenue generated by the underground prostitution industry in the U.S. is about $14.6 billion (“Prostitution Revenue”), the fifth highest in the world (about 8% of the total annual worldwide revenue). If prostitution were made legal, it would increase the U...
As prostitution is criminalized, this profession is driven underground which undermines the safety of prostitutes. Legalizing prostitution would provide sex workers with regulatory protection and allow this form of work to be recognized as legitimate. As the author of “Think Again: Prostitution” states, “evidence shows, that criminalization of sale or purchase (or both) makes sex workers-many of whom come from marginalized social groups like women, minorities, and the poor-more vulnerable to violence and discrimination committed by law enforcement. Also, criminalization can dissuade sex workers from seeking help from authorities if they are raped, trafficked, or otherwise abused.” Therefore, sex workers are subjected to unfair treatment that could be prevented if this work was legalized and safe conditions were enforced. The author of "Counterpoint: Prostitution Should Be Legalized” states, “prostitution is legalized and regulated in a variety of developed nations throughout ...
Prostitution has been as issue in many societies around the world for almost all of recorded history. There has been evidence of brothels and prostitution dating far back into human history. Many different societies have different views, ideals, and reservation about the matter. Some cultures around the world view it as a necessary evil for people who need to support themselves and their families. Others view it as morally evil and socially destructive; helping to rot our society from the inside out. Even still there are cultures who don’t view it as evil at all and even a normal part of life. A person’s view on the act is formed largely based on the culture they are living in. Even sub cultures inside of larger one can have different view on the matter, such as religious groups that denounce it, to some groups in the same culture that say it is okay. Even the gauge of how industrialized a country can determine how that culture views prostitution, with many third world countries being more lenient on the matter, and many first world countries being much more strict on the matter, such as the some of the countries in Europe and also the United States.
Prostitution should be legalized and regulated as society would benefit in various ways, such as the reduced spread of sexually transmitted diseases, economic benefits, empowering women, and reducing the violence toward sex workers. Because prostitution is criminalized many suffer as a result. It is inhumane to subject people to violence, rape, or abuse when it could be prevented if prostitution is decriminalized and regulated. Due to the illegalization of prostitution, this profession is driven underground which undermines the safety of prostitutes. The issue with prostitution is the controversy on the social and moral legitimacy of commercial sex. Despite the public health concerns, legalized and regulated prostitution will benefit the health of society.
What is prostitution? Prostitution is engaging in sexual acts for money. It is a form violence against women and some men and little girls such as little boys (Prostitution p.1, p1). It is known as an epidemic dealing with STDs it brings among them and leads to suicide about 15% have done it (Prostitution p.1, p5).Many women and little girls are mostly forced to prostitution by men who are pimps. Pimps are people who recruit these women and they seem like they can be trusted and give women a fake job trying to trick her to traveling far away to foreign countries (Prostitution p.1, p5). An example would be a guy finding a small teenage girl on the street picking her up and trying to make her feel like she is worth something by buying things for her or even become their boyfriend and trick her for a job that sounds pleasant or legit but really is not. Later she is set up and feel like she has made a mistake into prostitution making her feel really low and depressed. These women and young girls are threatened and experience rape, abuse, or even put to death. This is very hard to overcome for some who have stopped or escaped prostitution (Prostitution p.1, p6). The main problems dealing with prostitution is gender. A lot of people believe that women are a commodity and they can be bought and sold to any who is willing to have them. No one choose to do prostitution, but the average age for a teen is 12 to 14 years old starting
...p. In today’s society, the debatable conflict of prostitution definitely affects individuals in a negative way; however, there are positive aspects to such an issue as well.
The act of and war of prostitution has been going one since the beginning of time and with it going on this long it would be justifiable for all hope to be lost in the the attempt to break women away from the sexual bondage of prostitution.
Nearly 100,000 children in the United States are currently exploited through commercial sex trade. Over 27 million people worldwide are trapped in human trafficking. Human trafficking is a problem that is still prevalent today. Many people are negligent to the fact that millions of people are currently living enslaved to the sex industry. Ending any form of human slavery will never happen, but becoming aware of the problem and creating ways to stop the numbers from rising or even getting the numbers to decrease is important. The problem of legalizing prostitution is it promotes human trafficking, exploit women, and present traffickers with a bigger industry.
...compelling arguments, however, it is possible that in a situation such as this, a solution may best be reached through compromise such as the legalization of brothels. Regardless, the individuals in sex work don’t deserve to be denounced in the manner they are. Ultimately they are using their bodies to make money just as a construction worker or professional figure skater is and should not be punished for simply getting paid to do something that many strangers would do for a lot less.
Prostitution is one of the oldest professions in history. In this modern age there are several classes of prostitutes with several methods of finding work, but they still face violence in their business. Though prostitutes are frowned upon by society and treated as criminals, under the law they should not be scrutinized by the morals of the people. Prostitutes frequently feel they have no options due to their illegal work, should they be assaulted they cannot turn to the police since many officers refuse to aid them as criminals. Prostitution should be regulated to fight human trafficking, increase quality of life for the women working in the industry, and generate taxes for the government while reducing the cost of dealing with prostitution.
Prostitution is the act or practice of engaging in sexual intercourse for money. It’s estimated that 1-2 million women in the United States work as prostitutes (How Many Prostitutes Are in the United States?). Several people view prostitution as corrupt and unethical, but some viewers do not step to the other side of the track. If it were done in a monitored way, prostitution could be a benefit. Yes it can help protect women, but it is degrading and can be harmful.
Prostitution, generally defined as the selling of sexual acts, is a controversial and ever-present topic of debate. In recent times, places such as the state of Nevada legalized prostitution. Other countries such as New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Bangladesh, and much more decriminalized or fully legalized prostitution. The legalization of prostitution, or sex work, would mean the full legalization of buy and sell sexual acts between consensual and of age people. Prostitution should be legalized because it increases tax revenue, it improves the safety of Prostitutes, and improves the safety of the general population, while many people claim it will increase sex trafficking and.
Little do most know, but on “[a]verage [prostitution] arrest[s], court and incarceration costs amount to nearly $2,000 per arrest. Cities spend an average of 7.5 million dollars on prostitution control every year, ranging from 1 million dollars to 23 million dollars.” Prostitution is the oldest known profession. Currently in 49 countries and counting prostitution is legal. Here in America there is a stigma following the label prostitute. We would rather resort to underground markets of sex labor. Endangering health, rights, and economics. Legalizing prostitution can reduce health hazards by giving heath care, also by giving rights to those that choose prostitution as their profession. In the long term this
Prostitution is one of the root causes of human trafficking, especially sex traffic. Human trafficking is the illegal movement of people (such as: kidnapping), typically for the purposes of forced labor, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Human trafficking is one of the most barbaric crimes in society, because it is importantly violated to human rights. Human could not become a product to sell. In order to supply the labor for the prostitution industry, human trafficking becomes worse when it focus on women, and children. It transfers to sex trafficking. Many women are victims of human trafficking work in brothels, a part of them work as Streetwalker. Some countries give the idea that prostitution should be legalized to reduce the rate of human trafficking and sex trafficking, but they are wrong. Because, if we pass the law for prostitution, human trafficking and sex trafficking will increase in order to supply prostitutes for prostitution industry. Legalizing prostitution is a gift to pimps, traffickers because they will rely on a legal framework to bring
