“I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, natural, and wholesome things that money can buy.” I am a strong believer that each and every person should have the right to his/her own body and therefore have done extensive and authentic research, to prove the opinion and theories stated by me today to be true and coherent. Prostitution should be legalized simply because it would reduce violence against women and it’s just a job. All jobs in America should have labor rights. Legalizing prostitution, could help fight against human trafficking, make sex safer, and save other hard workers money. After all, weren’t we all born with the right to our own bodies? Prostitution happens even though it isn’t legalized. There are already unwanted babies being born, even though there are contraceptives. When prostitution is legalized, the plan is for it to be regulated. If anything, the birth rate would decrease because prostitution is already happening.
Furthermore, Sex workers have a right to their own body. America is supposed to be the land of the free. Are we truly free if they can tell us what we can and cannot do with our bodies? According to the Human declaration of human rights, article one, all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. If other employees have a right to do a job of his/her choice, then why can’t a prostitute? Prostitutes have a right to work also, considering that they too are human beings.
Moreover, Prostitution is just another job. According to the declaration of human rights, everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favorable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment (Article 23). Prostitutes could get labor rights, and work facilities that are suitable to their needs. The government could create more brothels to help make prostitution stable. According to studies done in Germany, researchers discovered that the legalization of prostitution improved the public health (Reisenwitz, C). Decriminalizing prostitution tolerates an industry that destroys and abuses people, particularly women. Keeping prostitution illegal in America has created an environment in which sex workers are subjected to violence, illness, mockery, and discrimination. Prostitutes are people and they have lives too. Banning prostitution will continue the allowance of hard-working citizens to be cheated out of their money his/her money through taxes. Just because some people are uncomfortable with prostitution does not mean that they have to partake in it. Today it’s illegal to prostitute, tomorrow it may be illegal to sell your own ideas and inventions. It’s time to stand up and stop letting the government control us
