Benefits of Homeschooling

Homeschooling can be a very controversial issue. When deciding whether it is a good choice, sometime there is no black or white answer, but a grey area that makes it difficult for some parents to decide if it’s the best decision. According to Shaw, homeschooling is becoming more popular every day, with a growth rate of 7 to 15 percent per year (Shaw, “The Pros and Cons of Homeschooling”). In this paper, the benefits of homeschooling, such as the freedom, relationships and over all well-being, will all be discussed.
Homeschooling provides four types of freedom; educational, physical, emotional and religious (Shaw). Not all children learn at the same pace, so the educational freedom of learning at their own pace can help a student really focus on the areas he or she struggles in. Family time is important and with a flexible school schedule due to homeschooling, families are able to have the physical freedom of taking vacations on their own time and not when school is out.
