Due to the measles outbreak occurred in California in the year 2014; the debate of whether mandatory vaccination should be implemented has resurfaced. Officials blaming the unvaccinated and on the other hand the people blame that the vaccines are not working. While there is a group of people who believed that vaccination is unnecessary, others like me think otherwise. In my opinion, the US should require mandatory vaccination to prevent a major epidemic outbreak, to keep the herd immunity strong and to protect the future generation. We claimed that it is unnecessary to be vaccinated as we no longer will be contracted with the disease after it is eradicated from our country. However, the statement is not exactly true. When we are unable to …show more content…
It is merely just a way for the government to promote vaccination. Herd immunity, by definition, is a form of indirect protection from contagious disease when a large percentage of a population has become immune to that disease, providing protection for individuals who are not immune to the disease. A lot of parents exempted their child from being vaccinated with a certain vaccine is either because the disease does not do a huge amount of damage to their child or they believe the vaccine causes autism and other illnesses, according to Nicholas Bakalar. For an instance, they believed that the rubella vaccine is not necessary for children. Most people who get rubella usually have a mild illness, with symptoms that include fever, sore throat, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body. Sounds harmless right? Nonetheless, the disease is dangerous for unborn babies. If a pregnant woman is infected with rubella virus she can have a miscarriage, or her baby could die just after birth. Moreover, if the baby survives, it is possible that the baby might develop serious birth defects such as heart problems, blindness and deafness, intellectual disability and lover or spleen damage. Herd immunity is important for individuals who cannot be vaccinated, such as pregnant women, children and elderly people as their lives depended on the strength of the
Mandatory flu vaccination for health care providers (HCP) and students has been a controversial issue that create a needed discussion about the rights and boundaries of individuals who choose careers in these fields. It is argued that nurses have a duty to protect their patients and throughout nursing history nurses have championed for the prevention of communicable diseases through the use of vaccinations to their patients and communities. Admittedly it is true that nurses are in environments with
countries and other regions have implemented policies of compulsory vaccination. Although mandatory vaccination is the most effective method of preventing children from some transmissible disease, it can also cause various issues that have adverse impacts on children. This essay will outline why compulsory vaccination for children is so important, including the reasons for compulsory vaccination and the risks resulting from non-vaccinators.
Should the Flu Shot Be Mandatory? Vaccines have been proclaimed by many people as one of the miracles of modern medicine. Vaccines are credited with saving thousands of lives and wiping out many contagious diseases. Recently, there has been a tremendous debate whether annual influenza vaccines should be mandatory. Influenza vaccines should be voluntary because people have the right to examine data on vaccinations and make their own informed decisions. Although people should have the freedom
reasons that they felt were not appropriate. A nurse who cared for Ebola patients in Africa, Kaci Hickox , was involuntarily quarantined upon her return back to the United States (Jobe, 2016). This quarantine was implemented despite CDC guidance that stated the quarantine was not necessary. It should be noted that politicians responsible for health related legislation may often have ulterior motives that may not abide by public or individual health ethics standards (Wynia,
Vaccinations: Vaccines Helping or Causing Trouble? The controversy concerning parents vaccinating their children has been a debate for many years. A vaccination is an injection of a weakened or killed organism that produces immunity in the body against that organism. In further detail: when germs such as bacteria or viruses, invade the body, they attack and multiply. This is then called an infection (an infection is what produces illness). When the immune system realizes, it then must fight back
children at all (Diekema, 2012, p. 391). People are starting to challenge the necessity, safety and tolerability of vaccinations because the public attention has been diverted from the decreasing incidence of disease to the ambiguous risks of side effects of vaccines (Heininger, 2009, G9). Despite its outstanding performance in preventing diseases, maintaining high level of vaccination coverage needs public understanding as well, particularly the acceptance of parents
vaccine is a treatment which makes the body stronger against a particular infection. Vaccinations are considered one of the greatest medical achievements of modern civilization. However, people around the world are not fully vaccinated against diseases. If vaccines become mandatory, it is possible that all the negative consequences of certain diseases and diseases itself could be eliminated. Vaccines should become mandatory considering they can reduce the mortality rate associated with diseases, improve
the “low hanging fruits,” as described by Baerjee and Duflo, are bed nets implemented in regions affected by Malaria and ORS salt to treat diarrhea. These “low hanging fruits’” however, are not being used as much because the poor choose to turn to more expensive medications once they fall ill. For example, within the poor communities, people tend to shy away from vaccinations or choose not to complete them. Such vaccinations that are needed to protect the community. Another example of underutilization
William Cohen implemented a mandatory military wide vaccination of all military members. Since the inception of the program, the program has been the subject of criticism by military members, Veteran Associations, Doctors, and many Senators on Capital Hill. The criticisms have stirred questions regarding the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. Questions that the military has not given clear answers to. Until the many questions regarding the vaccine are answered, service members should not be forced

rest of the population. Therefore, parents should be required to get their children vaccinated. Vaccines are a training for your body helping it to learn how to fight disease without actually having the symptoms. Antibodies are created in response to a disease
Health care information system (HCIS) is an arrangement of information (data), processes, people, and information technology that interact to collect, process, store, and provide as output the information needed to support the health care organization (Wager, Lee, Glaser, 2013, p. 105). Having ready access to timely, complete, accurate, legible, and relevant information is critical to health care organizations, providers, and the patients they serve (Wagerm Lee, & Glaser, 2013). In the health care
I did not choose to rely solely on subjective poverty because I feel that some families could be living beyond their means or not being honest about their circumstances. While this is not true for all or a majority of cases, I do not think it should be a sole definition. Thus, using a combination of both relative and subjective poverty would be the most ideal way to define poverty. What I think is important to notice is that poverty simply is the lack of means. No matter how one defines poverty
