Unemployment Compensation is a program operated by the Division of Employment Security, a division of the North Carolina Department of Commerce. The program is funded by an employer tax to provide eligible workers with some income while they seek new employment(Employment Security Commission). According to Human Resources Management, it states, “Unemployment insurance provides workers whose jobs have been terminated through no fault of their won monetary payments for up to 26 weeks or until they find a new job” (Human Resource Management p. 259). These benefits can take up to several weeks, depending on how long it takes for (ESC) Employment Security Commission to receive the proper information. This section says, “Information is gathered to determine if the discharge was due to conduct in the course of employment which constituted deliberate misconduct, a single knowing violation of a reasonable and uniformly-enforced rule or policy, larceny of property or services whose value exceeded $25 or theft of currency of any value, or felonious conduct” (Connecticut Department of Labor). In the sense of getting discharged, I would say that my son would be a part of this. My son was discharged from a place called Moen. He was randomly called out to take a drug test and he tested positive for it. Therefore I had to take the certain steps to file for unemployment compensation. I really didn’t have to do too much since I was laid off. The company that I worked for had already sent in the information that the Employment Security Commission needed so it was less paperwork for me to fill out. After ESC receiving the information it took me 4 weeks to receive my unemployment compensation. I was able to get unemployment compensation for 13 weeks or until I was able to find another job. With the economy the way it was back in 2009, I was able to get an extension, which was another additional 13
