Martin Luther King Jr said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” The Black Lives Matter movement wants this dream to come true, but there is a lot of controversy surrounding this movement and whether or not it is actually doing any good for the United States. There are many things that need to be known to decide whether or not Black Lives Matter is helping this country or not like its background, some of the pros people have pointed out, and some of the cons that people have voiced their opinion about. Some people have pointed out that this movement has actually inspires extremism. In Dallas, an African-American opened fire on police, killing five in the worst police massacre since 9/11. In Tennessee, a black man who claimed to be motivated by police brutality and racial profiling against African Americans opened fire on a highway, killing a woman and three others, including a police officer. In Missouri, an African-American motorist ambushed a white police officer after a traffic stop, shooting the officer in the neck and leaving him fighting for his life. Also in Missouri, a young black man targeted the home of an off-duty police officer after an online argument over Black Lives Matter. He threw a planter through the front door of an off-duty police officer’s home and advanced into the house while the officer’s wife, mother-in-law, and young children tried to escape through a back window (French). These people saw what the Black Lives Matter movement was doing to help the United States and wanted to help in their own way. This led to the deaths of people that were never involved with police brutality. Although this movement seems to be helping our country, it is creating just as much pain as it is healing
