For the past several decades, what children should be eating in school cafeterias has become a huge debate. Typically on a standard lunch tray you have a section for your meat, grain, fruit, and vegetables. Ever since you were little, you would smother your cut up hot dogs and dinosaur chicken nuggets in ketchup. Now in our society we have allowed for ketchup to be a substitute for a vegetable. Instead of having chicken and broccoli for lunch, you now only have to have chicken and ketchup, and it will count as a meat and a vegetable. I argue that we should not allow condiments to be considered a vegetable. I refuse to accept that it gives anyone the proper nutrition they need for a healthy diet. This rule forces campuses to cut back on the amount of junk food served. They have also tried to take away the ability to serve free meals to children who do not paperwork to prove they need free lunch, such as children with SNAP or children whose parents have low income. SNAP is a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. This helps families with low income buy food for their family. It is most commonly known as food stamps. Cutting this can cause children who do not have enough money in their lunch account, to not be able to eat. A child can pick the food they want on their tray, and when they go to pay they do not have enough money in their account. Their tray will be taken and thrown into the garbage. Some people see things differently, that our children should be given the option to choose what they want to eat. Kids cannot fully understand the importance of nutrition, especially at a young age. Considering Barack Obama has been called the “finest food president of all time,” it is safe to say that he has made a big difference in our society. Donald Trump will not be continuing with what the Obama’s worked so hard for. The reality of it is without the proper guidance children are only going to eat fatty, unhealthy junk food. Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
This concedes that now America is creating health issues from consuming unhealthy foods. The article states that now obesity has affected many kids in America. Due to obesity affecting many kids in America the argument here is that, parents are not thinking about their child’s health and how it affects their body. Their main worry if the food is cheap and that it’s reasonable to buy for their family; which is understandable. Thus, many kids health are in danger from the lack of a nutritious diet. At the same time, fast food companies believe that it’s not their fault. The National School Lunch Act is a fairly recent addition to American society. For, as the world waged war a second time, the United States began to worry about the strength and health of the country’s soldiers. However, in the beginning, selling excess agricultural goods was more important than building a healthy, well-balanced meal for students. Unfortunately, many children coming from poorer families could not afford well-balanced school lunches, so in order to compensate, the School Lunch Program changed its focus to help these students. This program, however, decreased schools’ lunch budgets, and schools had a hard time keeping up with the amount of free meals they had to provide, so they came up with some extra ways to increase revenue. However, in a small town in Massachusetts, one chef makes a difference in the health of the school lunch students eat each day, and proves that hiring a trained chef to cook real, healthy meals can increase profit. Unfortunately, that is not the case in most schools across the nation. The quality of health of the food being served in school lunches is extremely poor and was allowed to decline even more with a new set of rule changes. Because of The Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act “ New meals are required to offer a whole grain,protein,fat free or low fat milk, fruits and vegetables”(Arit John 10). Even if the government regulates school lunches to prevent obesity and diabetes, the government should not be able to regulate them because students are not happy with the new school nutrition requirements, schools should be responsible for providing a nutritious lunch children will eat.
