Carly Fiorina has soared through the polls this week, after the GOP second primary debate. Many, would argue that she is the so called “winner” of the debate. She gained a lot of support and favor causing her to become the second runner up in the polls. However, during the debate light of her being fired from CEO at Hewlett-Packard. Many now question if Fiorina has had a very impressive life. She is very educated and talented. She started as a simple sectary who moved up to being the CEO of a fortune five hundred company. How did this very successful women going from being a CEO to being fired from her position. Finorina argues that it was the work of “mean old men”. She reminded the public that during her time as CEO she increased cash flow and doubled revues. However, being president of the United States of America takes a lot more than being a savvy business women. …show more content…
It is possible that tough economic times that effected the Silicon Valley was a contributing factor to the stocks plummet, however, instead of accepting any blame Fiorina, passed the blame for the stocks decrease to another factor. She went in front of the board arguing that the drop in the stock was not her fault, she provided her own set of numbers to prove to them that she had doubled revenues by buying Compaq, but no one on the board agreed or supported her. This shows that even though she is a highly respected and admired business women she could not work effectively with the own members of her board. Many people question how do we expect her to work with members of the white
I am choosing to write my essay focusing on Nancy Pelosi, arguably one of the most influential politicians of her time, and certainly one of the outstanding ladies of the political world. Not only was she the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House, she also was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame at Seneca Falls. She ranks with the most consequential speakers, certainly in the last 75 years.”(Burstyn) Nancy Pelosi was born on March 26th in 1940 and she has represented San Francisco for approximately 29 years. This however is not by far her most notable achievement, speaker of the house aside, under her guidance the 111th US Congress was said to be the most productive in the history of its conception. This means that she was able to oversee the 111th Congress in a manner that minimized the terrible three, collective action problems, commitment problems, and coordination problems. These problems all come down to the inability to make decisions, and are extremely ponderous to efficiency. She ran it as famously, even though the house was so divided when she took the pos...
Overall, Hillary Rodham Clinton gave a convincing speech on women’s rights at the U.N. World Conference by using the key rhetorical techniques ethos, pathos, logos, and anaphora’s. The use of these techniques helped the audience believe in the cause of which Clinton was speaking about, sympathize for situations females were being put through, and working to strive towards equal rights for everyone. Clinton used the same stance throughout her speech and raised her voice at points in her speech that needed
The outcome of Talia’s letter got her fired. The internet responded with mixed review as some
Filibusters can surely be effective for Senate minority leaders. However, it can have both its pros and cons. Some of the advantages include that the filibuster was created to protect the privileges of the Senators in order to fully debate and modify laws in the United States Senate, therefore securing the concern of all the citizens in America. Filibusters tend to exist thanks to the Founding Fathers ideology of designing a democratic government in which politicians became involved and educated throughout many political processes. Whenever a Senator goes on the Senate floor and talks endlessly for hours on a particular issue, it automatically engages attention to the particular matter, such as the 11-hour filibuster Senator Wendy Davis accomplished
To summarize this analysis, Hillary Clinton shows us how as we unite, the stronger our bond is. She uses clever ways to show this action. Though she did not win this presidential election, she is still loved by many. She helped herself because of the way she wrote and persuaded people to join her. Using rhetorical appeals
Not only were millions of Americans been put out of work due to these manager’s actions, the American financial markets themselves were pushed to the brink of collapse. Despite the fact that the global financial markets, in reality, are not perfectly efficient, there is a corrective mechanism built into the day-to-day trading in the market. When prices are driven down by large sells, either by large investors or a movement in a stock, there are usually new buyers for these stocks at the cheaper price. Managers of...
Hillary Rodham Clinton is a well-recognized woman in the United States. Her great contribution as Secretary of State impacted people’s lives. One of many remarkable speeches Clinton gave was the “The Women Rights Speech” on the 4th World Conference on Women Plenary Session, where she used strong words and emotions to appeal the audience. Even though the speech talked about women rights, she wanted everyone including men and children to listen and take action. Her use of ethos, logos and pathos throughout the speech helped people understand women live in a world where they suffer discrimination, and she proposes solutions to solve the issue.
...nt lies In the Investors, Bollenback should address the shareholders directly of the impending situation. It would be important to make sure they know that managements incentives are not necessarily the same as theirs, as can be seen by the lack of executive ownership at ITT. Investors must know about the haphazard changes management has taken in recent in order to improve their stock price. ITT management cited the interests of shareholders and ITT employees interests as reasons not to accept a bid, yet they recently cut 125 jobs, over half of their headquarters. Hilton has a plan to Increase value to shareholders though better capital structure, improved cash flows, and synergistic cuts. Additionally, they should be aware of the window of opportunity regarding the decision created by the alignment of management’s ending terms, as well as any other timing issues.
Through out his tenure at Sunbeam,Al Dunlap’s advocated profit by firing many employees and shutting down many factories. If we look at it in the short term ,this approach seems very attractive as it brings in quick short term gains. In the long term ,however, such a decision would not ensure the sustainability of the company. Profitability and responsibility can and should be combined in an ideal world, however it is clear that they are at least partially contradictory. Shareholder pressure should not force a company to make short-term decisions that might be detrimental to the long-term profitability of the company.
Great leaders aren't born they are made, and they are made just like anything else, through hard work and that's the price they have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal. I would be lying if I told you that Carly Fiorina is a perfect person however I do believe that Carly Fiorina is a very unique individual with variety of skills that she can easily implement to politics, in doing so will bring substantial improvement to the current political system and the corporate world. There have been many occasions in Carly’s previous career at HP that she has brought great enhancement and innovations to the company. When I began to analyze her managerial qualities I found six key elements that made her unique but more importantly it was how she implemented her abilities to achieve the goals that really made her a great leader and a potential candidate to run for public office.
Winfrey’s early life was filled with arduous hurdles from the beginning, she was raised in a small podunk town in Mississippi that was anything but safe for a young girl, but on top of that she was raised by a single mother who was not around nearly enough. However the most formidable part of her upbringing was, she was sexually abused by ‘family friends’ and relatives on multiple occasions starting from the age of just nine. At twelve she was sent away to middle Tennessee to live with her father, there she realised her passion, she began giving speeches in front of her church and ultimately came to the conclusion that she wanted to speak for a living. Without her parents divorce Winfrey might have never figured out her passion of speaking to people until it was too late, this was a hidden advantage in the making of her success. However all too soon she had to leave the comfort of her father’s home where she could pursue her interest and journey back to her mother, where she was sadly yet again
The goal of Hillary’s speech is to persuade her audience that her ideas are valid, by using ethos, pathos, and logos. Hillary is the First Lady and Senator, she shows credibility as an influential activist for woman rights. “Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and families. Over the past two and a half years, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the challenges facing women in my country and around the world” (Clinton 2).
During her early life, Hillary Clinton learned that a huge problem across the globe was gender inequality. Women and men were not equal. Men were making more money than women for the same jobs. She believed she could change this. On September 5, 1995 Hillary Clinton gave a speech at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women. Clinton uses powerful rhetoric in order to create an air of sympathy for women among her audience. She is hoping to make the world become more aware of the inequalities women face daily while also making them feel ashamed for their previous actions of discriminating women, which would cause them to change their ways. She uses her speech “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights” to create awareness of the discrimination
