Promotional Pop Videos A promotional music video can be of many different genres. Some factors are present in all videos whilst others are specific to the aim of the song. The earliest example of a music video is Queen with their single "Bohemian Rhapsody" which was shot and released in the 1970s. The video is very simple and effective and it helped the single become of the most famous songs in the world. Costumes are a very important part of a music video. The artist/s and director have to decide the outfit/costume that the performer(s) will be wearing in the video. In addition, in many videos the costumes worn will change many times. Whatever the performer wears has to be specific to the target audience of the video. It is also important that the chosen outfits draw the audience's attention to the performer. Finally, it has to be relevant to some of the connotations and denotations that the artists want to emit. For instance, Britney Spears in the video for "Hit Me Baby" was dressed as a promiscuous school girl. This is because she wants to attract the attention of the male audience. In addition, because she was sixteen at the time the video was produced and released, the video is ironic because Britney was still a student at High School in America. Another example of how artists attract their audience is Peter Andre and his infamous six-pack. This is used to attract the attention of his female audience. Directors are a massive part of any music video and it is imperative that he/she is present if the vide is to be successful. Obviously, the director will have a prominent influence over the video and this doesn't always have to reflect the song being performed in the video. Some examples of a director's influence over how a music video is produced are videos directed by Hype Williams. He is extremely well known around the world because he produces a lot of good quality and highly successful music videos for a song in the style of hip-hop.
During the introduction stage, the product is initially launched and slowly grabbing the public’s attention (Solomon, 2008). Madonna’s career as an entertainer entered its introduction stage when the Warner Bros released her first self-titled debut “Madonna” in 1983. Madonna’s “funky, rhythm-and-blues-tinged sound” (Cengage, 2003) slowly caught the attention of New York underground club dancers and audiences. Madonna and her band members often visit the hottest clubs to attract more audience by wearing multicolored wardrobe and performing provocative dancing.
Overall, through Lennox’s performances in her music video she was able to construct another narrative for women in music at the time. Through this she employed the use of gender bending, drag as masquerade, camp and gender subversion. All of these were made possible using props and her mise-en-scene, which provided the right look and atmosphere for these performances to be able to take place. In conclusion, Lennox was part of the women who started a movement still used today through other female contemporary artists.
Even for every day appearances, he always caught everybody’s attention. With his unique fashion sense he manages to start more trends. From the single, white, sequined glove, the red leather jacket with so many zippers. To his pegged pants, fedora, and bedazzled military coats (Rosen, 2009). People everywhere began to follow his fashion trends. Along with other musicians, people changed their look just so that they could stand out and catch people’s attention. Just looking about celebrities today there are numerous of artist that started out with a couple of songs, but didn’t get a big fan base so they changed up their look. From Lady Gaga, to Katy Perry, Nicki Minaji, Lana Del Ray, etc. But unlike them Michael Jackson had already caught everybody’s attention with his vocals and
The world we are living is a fast paced ruled by the media. We are surrounded by images of, perfect bodies, beautiful hair, flawless skin, and ageless faces that flash at us every day. The advertisement is implied in order to be like the people in the advertisements you must use their product. This approach is not new to this generation, but widely used today. The advertisements grab people attention and persuade them with the appearance of beauty and happy women that looks sophisticated to people eyes.
Can a medium be a genre? If we casually substitute genre for more general synonyms like category, class, or group, then the answer is “yes,” as demonstrated by the information architecture of online super-retailers like Amazon.com. Amazon subdivides its massive inventory first by medium, like “Books” or “Movies,” before incrementally working toward a finer degree of granularity. Taking books as our example medium, we can navigate by sub-genres to find a title in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > Adventure. But this understanding of genre-as-synonym largely ignores the more formal identification process performed within the established field of genre studies. Frow (2005) provides several structural dimensions to use when identifying genre, which include considerations of formal features, thematic structure and content, physical setting, and situation of address. For longer-established genres, like the sci-fi adventure book, say, we could easily recognize several of these dimensions and codify common elements together into a genre. However, do these dimensions provide the same ease of identification for emerging classifications of digital media, like the viral video?
Texts are political. Political in the sense that they produce messages that carry specific ideas and beliefs targeted toward a certain thinking body of people. A familiar phrase in America is, “art imitates life.” It defines life as essential to art, but can we say the reverse? Could life imitate art? The semantics of the phrase seem too ambiguous for such a statement. What is the definition of art, of life? The phrase suggests that art reinforces cultural and social beliefs by using the verb imitate. If art imitates life, then life imitates art. The verb is reflexive and positioned in the middle of the two words it is reflecting. It is true then, the language speaks for itself, and this political statement can be used as a tool to find the underlying cultural belief within a text.
The rappers their approach was that people listened to them and their clothes were more colorful. With the times the styles were changing already and they become more liberals they began to dress the women in sensual clothes usually the colors of their clothes is black and they teach their bodies so that the people look more their videos. The rappers use the women as a sexual object that they can handle. Rap music all women who are beautiful are the ones who come out in these videos because it is the appearances that matter to them and they want to give to understand that the women have to show their body to make money. A research by Biancawade state "A study done at McKinley Senior High School 2009 has shown that 67% of students feel that women are represented as sex objects in music videos. Eight- four percent feel as though there is more to a woman than her physical features but the media still depicts females as sexual objects." The quote state the most of the young people from high school believe the women is a sex object and that makes them think they can be used all women just as an object of pleasure. Most all women would like to have a good body and be able to dress like those models to get everything they want and is what today the rappers are no longer so popular in the lyrics of the music if not the pretty women who come
The use of media and popular culture is a sociological phenomenon wherein the structural changes to society, which accompany the emergence of new forms of communication and accessing information, can be examined. There are many differing views regarding whether media and popular culture are necessary to the functioning of a democratic and egalitarian society or whether they actually further social inequality and inhibit political discussion or involvement. Although both interpretations are arguably valid, it can be seen that it is not popular culture and the media in and of themselves but rather how they are consumed by the public that determine how these mediums influence individuals and by extension the wider society.

Most generations have been influenced by a trend of music that inspires them to dress, behave, and talk in a certain way. There are people who have the special talent of making others relate to their emotions, thoughts, or ideas by creating music. In current society most artists decide to create videos to make their lyrics visual for their listeners and to earn more profit. The negative thing about the creation of music videos is the way in which females are stereotyped. In a lot of music videos, especially hip-hop/rap, females are portrayed in a negative way, which causes a harmful influence on the people who view them.

In the 1920s, artist like Sergei Eisenstein, Dziga Vertov and Vsevolod Pudovkin started experimenting with the new technique in their abstractfilms which is known as montage. Montage which is a synonym for Editing is a technique where two or more shots are juxtaposed which create a new meaning thatis not existent looking at the shots individually (Manovich, 2001). Few of the early examples of films using this technique are The Battleship Potemkin(1925) by Eisenstein and Man with a Movie Camera(1929) by Vertov.Montages are widely used in many other TV production areas like Advertisement, Dramas, News Programs and Music Videos. The Music Videos make excessive use of montages for the imagery in theirsongs; one of the examples is The Buggles- Video Killed the Radio Star (1971) which was the first music video to be shown on television at launch of MTV in 1981. Both Films and Music Videos use different approach towards editing of their shots, which plays a major role in maintaining balance between audio and visual information.
