1. Discuss the importance of professional registration to your personal career goals. (It’s okay to say you don’t plan to be licensed, but you should talk about why and demonstrate an understanding of the process.) As a Civil Engineering student, it is important for me to further my education by getting professionally licensed. To be a professional licensed engineer means that I have already earned four years bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited engineering college. Then I would have to take a fundamental of Engineering Exams (FE). Afterwards I would have to complete a four years of ongoing engineering experience and practice under a Professional Engineer to gain hands on skills and experience. Lastly, I would have to apply to take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam and pass it. The two exams are competency exams that are required before I can earn my license from the State Licensure Board (“What is a PE,” n.d). …show more content…

Becoming a PE varies from state to state depending on educational level and experiences, while other state might require further steps. For this paper I will cover the requirement a Professional Engineer must go through in the state of Texas. The advantages that comes along with being a professionally licensed engineer according to the National Society of Professional Engineers, includes being credentials approved by future clients. Earning the trust of my boss that I am competent enough to take on an advanced level of responsibilities. Among my mates it calls for respect and sets me apart from just any other graduate engineering student.
