2. What stage of the product lifecycle describes this product? Which of the four main marketing strategies apply here?
Product Lifecycle is a good method to identify the formulation of marketing strategy. Product lifecycle has 4 stages: Introduction, growth, maturity and decline. Sony PlayStation 4 was released on 15 November 2013 in North America and Sony claims that they successfully sold 1 million units of PlayStation 4 on their first launching day. They double the amount of sales compare to PS3 sales on the first month as illustrated in Figure 1. Furthermore, Sony has to exercise heavy promotion to create awareness on PlayStation 4 because it is a new product. Hence, Sony PlayStation 4 is in the introduction stage. Sony PlayStation 4 is considered as a gaming console and they must regularly update and refresh their product, price, promotion and place strategy to compete within the industry.
The main marketing strategies that apply in this stage are the Product, promotion and price strategies. Product strategies at this stage expressed the PlayStation 4 specifications broadly and its features benefits on why it is better than the other gaming consoles. Sony shows the product qualities that attract their targeted customer market interest, the hardcore gamers. The hardcore gamers demands their games to be visually appealing with superior quality and Sony PlayStation 4 shows that they are capable of doing that. Also at this stage, Sony gives the customer ability to provide insight on the product so they can improve and can perform better than its competitor. This strategy will be discussed further in point 4.
Sony uses various pricing strategies to gain consumer interest in the introduction stage. Odd pricing is exercised by ...

...ved a better brand loyalty, 93% of PlayStation 3 owners said they are interested to purchase a PlayStation 4 over an Xbox One (7%).
Demographic segmentation is based on factors such as age and gender. The Entertainment Software Association (2013) reported that 51% of US household own a dedicated game console. Gender demographic is 55% male and 45% female. Also, according to the same resource, the average age of a gamer in 2013 is 30 years old, consisting of 32% under 18 years old, 32% 18-35 years old and 36% above 36 years old. However, not every gamer in this survey is considered as a core gamer. The composition of hardcore gamers are more towards the younger demographic. NPD group (2013) survey reveals that those ages 9-17 are most likely to be a hardcore gamer (26%), while ages 18-35 are slightly lower at 21% and the percentage starts to drop down from here.
Many people agree that Sony’s Playstation 4 is better than Microsoft’s Xbox One and vice versa. I have been gaming since I was seven years old and still am today. The first gaming console I ever had was the original Xbox. Throughout the years though, technology has improved vastly. The last generation of game consoles gave the industry a much needed boost and gave the consumer another commodity. With the eighth generation of consoles just arriving, a lot of people are wondering which console to buy. There is, however, more than just the choice of games. There’s differences in processors, graphics cards, hard drives, design, operating systems, ports, versatility, stability, controllers, and, of course, the games.
There are few things on the minds of gamers more then the current console wars between the PS4 and the Xbox One. This time, the field is nearly level on the hardware front and the services offered are very close. The devices are very similar but there are some obvious differences. Microsoft and Sony have different end games in mind and their products reflect those philosophic differences. It is in the fine details that the differences will emerge.
In this day and age, a massive number of people own gaming consoles, while some people are willing to buy one, probably either a Playstation 4 (PS4) or the Xbox One. What console buyers don’t know is that not all consoles suit their needs or suits their personalities. I strongly believe that the brand new PS4 would come in first against its rival, the Xbox one As a result of the technology that today’s developers have in hand for us, the PS4 is phenomenal in terms of graphics, it possesses handy and easy to use features and it is particularly made for entertainment.
Do you or any of your friends play video games on a console? If you ask gamers the question, “gaming console you like the most?” they will probably say Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Xbox and PlayStation are known as the most popular gaming consoles of all the time. These two consoles have been competing for a very long time for the throne of the best game console since 2001 until now. In this article, we are going to find out which console has the best advertisement, We are going to determine this not by the console’s hardware, not by its cool features, and not by what exclusive games they have. It is because to grade the games and features are good or bad is kind of difficult because everyone can has different games
Sony and Microsoft basically target the same target market. They target more mature serious gamers. Instead of focusing on cartoon characters they try to offer the best gaming experience. They achieve that by offering the best graphics, speed and technology.
The five stages of the product life cycles begins with the Product development stage when the company finds and develops a new product idea. The second stage is the Introduction and is the period of slow sales growth as the product is presented in the market. The third stage is the Growth and is the period of rapid market acceptance and increasing profits. The fourth stage is Maturity and is the period of slowdown in sales growth because the product has achieved acceptance by most potential buyers. The fifth and final stage is Decline and is the period when sales fall off and profits
Ever since there have been video games to play there have been huge debates over which video game console was actually the best console of them all. Each new generation of consoles are better than the last. The PlayStation4, commonly referred to as the “PS4”, is the best gaming console to date, and provides its users with the best online gaming experience than the Xbox One based on its hardware, online services, and its accessories.
Some conclusions in this proposal rely on the determination of the lifecycle stage of the product category. The lifecycle stage - whether introduction, growth, maturity, or decline – provides a useful starting point for product portfolio management, and is used to guide decisions of retiring, redeveloping, or replacing products. In general, growth means an increasing market share, maturity means demand still exists but the market is approaching saturation, and decline means the product is becoming or already is obsolete.
The Xbox has been around for awhile and the gaming system, games and accessories have been well received and the market is continuing to grow. The marketing will be key in continuing product loyalty, growth of the customer base and keeping on top of the growing market.
In this stage there are rules concerning how long the product can be marketed as new. After the initial introduction time the marketing strategy could and should change in order to have the product seen by as many potential clients as possible. Once an item is accepted word of mouth advertising can be just as helpful as the continued mass media marketing strategies already in use. There have been a number of products that when introduced to the market immediately began to be accepted. A few simple toys such as the Furbies and Tickle-me-Elmo had their moment is the spotlight when introduced prior to Christmas and for some reason flew from the shelves faster than retailers could get them. This type of acceptance into the market would be great for any product as long as the demand was constant. Like the toys, many of today’s technological gadgets are sought after and with the mention of a new upgraded version of the phone, tablet, laptop, or other electronic toy drives people to preorder and wait in line for the date of the items release to the market. This is the acceptance that every developing company would love to have. With the acceptance of their product they will be able to quickly recover the money spent on research and development and product validation. Despite being the next latest
Product strategy: It includes clear description of the product at core, actual and augmented levels. A core product includes benefits the audience will experience for performing the targeted behavior. An actual product is the desired behavior and an augmented product refers to any additional tangible object and services that will be accompanied in the offer and promoted to the target market.
Introduction Stage – This stage of the cycle could be the most expensive for a company launching a new product. The size of the market for the product is small, which means sales are low, although they will be increasing. On the other hand, the cost of things like research and development, consumer testing, and the marketing needed to launch the product can be very high, especially if it’s a competitive sec...
Through a comprehensive research on Sony’s industry as a whole, according to Wall Street Journal, “TVs are the core of the core for Sony (Dvorak P., August 29, 2005, Sony Plans Ad Blitz to Boost Ailing TV Unit)” because of the spirit of innovation, state of the art technology and superior quality imbibed in its corporate culture. Sony’s primary problem that was observed during the research process was its high pricing strategies especially in its ailing TV industry which has resulted in a decline of its sales growth and revenue though. A major drawback for the high prices of Sony TVs is due to the rise of the Yen in which consumers bear the brunt by having to pay higher prices for. This is done as such because Sony needs to recover its lost foreign exchanges due to international trade between foreign currencies and that of the Japanese Yen. The results of the research show that because of its high pricing strategy, fewer consumers are willing to purchase a Sony TV. This concludes that price is certainly an influential factor before considering purchase though consumers appreciate the quality and brand name of Sony
The company has many different customers to impress with a new system. They must please both fair-weather and hard-core gamers as well as their shareholders. The company will build on the 2006 excitement created by the original remote controls by making enhancements to the next system. With the release of a new console, a new cohesive marketing communications plan will need to be developed and implemented.
