Everyone knows the feeling of not wanting to do something. Whether it is chores when we were young or school work in high school and now college. Procrastination is defined as the action of delaying or postponing something. It can be a daily struggle to for some people who really just want to have fun and hang out with their friends rather than do their homework. It all depends on what they think is more important when they take the time and think about their decisions. Dr. Piers Steel wrote about research that said that there are six types of procrastinators, “people pleaser (agrees to untenable tasks to avoid confrontation), the worrier (puts off tasks due to anxiety), the unmotivated (simply lacks motivation to move forward), the big dreamer (puts off tasks as soon as they become boring), the buzzer breaker (who puts off tasks strategically to maximize performance), and the distracted (who is constantly interrupted at work)” (Steel). No matter what kind of procrastinator someone is they all need to find a way to overcome it. They all waste time when they should be doing something with it. Eric S Cerino from Eastern Connecticut State University states a fact that Dr. Steel said “procrastination is a widespread problem that is expected to increase in prevalence due to less controlling management strategies” (Cerino). That is something that should not become true, having the skill of time management helps college kids in the future when they get the job that they want. Marium Saleem who is a professor at the University of the Punjab, says “Procrastination keeps a student wedged in problems and tasks that prevent them from moving ahead in life; students find it difficult to focus on performing other tasks till they have completed the one in hand, which further effects quality of work in other spheres of life” (Saleem). How do students expect to do great things and accomplish what they want in life if they keep putting off things that need to be done? Every person has a dream of what they want to be in the future, whether it’s being a doctor or being a lawyer, in for them to succeed in getting that job it is important for them to be able to move forward and do what schooling they need to do.
