A hobby can be anything that you wish to spend your time on. Whether it be something that you take interest in or something you are forced into. I have only ridden horses for three years. Although, I have never had time to compete in rodeo, I still enjoy riding. I began riding after I recieved my horse, Jake. After doing some research, I practically taught myself to ride him. I was hooked on the fact that I had power over the animal. The connection was irreplaceable. With that said, the secret behind a good rider is the preparations he or she apply, before the ride. Riding a horse takes more preparation than it does training.
Preparing a horse the right way for riding, is crucial. If not prepped the right way, the horse could be easily stressed.

The connection between the rider and the horse is unlike any other. When you get up on the horse, you both become one. The simplest way to teach yourself how to ride a horse, is to put yourself in the horse’s shoes. When you push your heel into the horse, they lean the opposite way. This technique is called spurring. Spurring is one way to lead a horse. While spurring at it’s side , use the bit rope. You can lead the horse’s head whichever way you want it to go, using the bit rope. The bit rope comes from the base of the jaw and up over the head. You use this rope to hold and guide the horse’s head. Using body language to communicate, is also a simple way to lead. By leaning to either side, you can help direct the horse more easily. The horse can sense your body language. For further precautions, if you are agitated in any way, the horse will take advantage of your tension. It will sense if you are nervous and act out by making you work harder. A thing you always have to train your horse with is to be patient, get a halter on them and tie them on a post, make sure the horse can get free if they pull, or have a quick release latch. I say this because if your horse is totally tied up to a wooden post that’s only stuck in the ground, no matter how far in, or how sturdy it is, if your horse gets spooked, it will, pull the post out of the ground because if he pulls, and it won’t release, they will pull and pull as hard as they can until they feel no pressure, then they will stop, and calm themselves down. I have always had a passion for animals. As a young child, I was convinced I constantly needed new animals, but we never had the space to care for them. In an effort to fill my desire to be involved with animals, my mom decided to sign me up for English horseback riding lessons. Although I never really believed I would enjoy English riding, I went to the horse barn about two times a week to practice. Over time, I learned to enjoy the sport and I created a bond with the horse I rode; he became my best friend. We went to competitions almost every single weekend and I won multiple awards. When my parents separated I had to stop competing. I was devastated to leave the behind the horse I had grown to love, however, I knew that this would not be the end of my future with animals.
