There are so many controversies nowadays in the United States alone, and abortion remains one of the hot topics. Abortion is an act of terminating a growing human life within a mother’s womb either medically or surgically. There are two sides of this controversy pro- life, abortion and pro-choice. Many people who argue against abortion, think of it as an act of murder, and they also believe that life starts at conception and killing a fetus before it is born is considered cruel and torturous. According to abortion.procon.org 2011, “Fetuses feel pain during the abortion procedure”. Fetuses have the ability to feel pain in the first trimester. Many people are unaware of the fact that it is painful for the unborn fetus while going through the whole abortion procedure.
However, on the other hand, many believe that “Personhood begins after a fetus becomes "viable" (able to survive outside the womb) or after birth, not at conception” (abortion.procon.org 2011). This statement opposes the pro-life argument, as it states that life starts when a person is able to survive outside the womb on their own. Pro- choice side also states that “abortion is an act of terminating the pregnancy and not the baby.”

Abortion not only poses the short-term risk, there are also long-term risks involved. Abortion may make it difficult for women to have children in future.
