Some may argue in the bible it states it is wrong to be involved in a gay marriage. If two people love each other why can they not get married? There are so many arguments that can be brought up to justify marriage and for couples to receive benefits like any other couple. In this society understand why some people like myself I feel like people have the right to be with who they want to be with and just because you don’t believe in it doesn’t make it bad. A gay person is no diffe... ... middle of paper ... ...y should someone be denied the right to get married just because they are gay?
Gay marriage should be legal worldwide. Gay marriage or same-sex marriage is when a man and man or women and a woman get married. Same-sex marriage impacts society in different types of ways, some people are affected by it because they think it is against the bible, others seem to have no impact or problem with same-sex marriage. However for the gay community it affects them, because in some states they are not allowed to marry the one they are in love with it. Also it impacts them because there are groups of people against same-sex marriage and the gay community is constantly being judged by people opposed to same-sex marriage.
Pew Research, 12 May 2016. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/05/12/support-steady-for-same-sex-marriage-and-acceptance-of-homosexuality/. However, straight marriage is not the right thing to do. Just because a person is happy, does not mean it is morally correct. The article “Gay Marriage” states that Americans still oppose to gay marriage because it violates their religious beliefs (2). Yes, everyone in the world needs to feel happy and accepted, but sometimes it is unnecessary acts that get people where they are in the world.
Several other states are also debating whether or not to allow these couples to marry. Unfortunately, the dispute has left the United States' homosexual community in an awkward position. There are some people who think that gay people have no rights and should never be allowed to marry, and others believe that gay people should enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexuals. I think that the United States should allow same-sex couples to marry just like heterosexual couples. There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married.
These individuals would rather just be closed-minded in this situation and reticent to really think about what this means to the gay community and the country. Same sex couples are not asking for any special rights; they are just asking to be treated equal with opposite sex couples. The explanations given by many Americans against gay marriages are based on false assumptions and unsubstantiated arguments. However, the real and unspoken reasons many heterosexuals have against same-sex marriages are based on religious beliefs. There are a number of false assumptions the straight community has regarding same sex marriages.
Legalization of gay marriage has been a major controversial topic for a long time. Although, many people do not know what it means to be homosexual, most people do not know the actual definition of homosexuality and they do not know how difficult it is to be gay in this society. There are many reasons why people are against gay marriage and homosexuals all together. Most of the reasons are based on religious bias another big reason is being afraid of the unknown. Some smaller reasons are that being heterosexual is such a social norm now a day’s people are not used to the change.
Homosexual Marriage Since 1971 when the first same sex couple Richard John Baker and James Michael McConnell applied for a marriage license and were denied in the Baker vs. Nelson ruling, America has been forced to debate whether homosexuals should be allowed to be married even though they are not the classical definition of a couple. There are many opinions about this subject from government officials, religious leaders and even the president of the United States. Homosexuals should be allowed to be married because they need to be treated fairly and equally. Homosexuals have been denied the right to be married because many people feel, "The union of a man and woman is the most enduring human institution, honored and encouraged in all cultures and by every religious faith" (George W. Bush). Since marriage wasn't clearly defined in our Bill of Rights, The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was started.
Marriage is a commitment of private love between two people, yet homosexuals have been denied the right to make their marriage recognized in most states in America. The people who are against gay marriage believe in protecting traditional marriage between a man and a woman (Jones). They argue that homosexuality isn’t natural, therefore it shouldn’t be accepted in our society. Also, they say that a child can be raised best in an environment with a mother and a father, and that having gay parents will result in their child being gay (Hansen). Many religions, like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, deny homosexuality, and since marriage is a religious ceremony, many believe that it would be wrong to legalize homosexual marriage because it goes against its principles(Jones).
Even with same sex couples being more commonly accepted, there are still conservative and religious leaders that remain opposed. It is this opposition that has prevented gay marriage from becoming legal in most of the country. Gays and lesbians are Americans just like everyone else, and deserve the same rights. Discrimination to a minority is supposed to be against the law, but still somehow manages to exist for the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community. Preventing same sex couples from marrying is not only denying them their civil rights, it is also discriminating against their innocent family members.
Or maybe they were a couple of letters of the same sex engaging in a homosexual relationship. A “W” is two “V” s in a civil union, but the world is not ready to flip that on its head and let them go for the big “M” (Kintz). Not only does some humans have a problem with individuals being gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people also has an issue with same sex marriage. Love and marriage shouldn 't have a gender to it, because love just happens. People shouldn 't sacrifice their happiness in marrying someone who doesn 't make them happy just to be accepted and not be judged.
