The smaller combine is called “Pro Days” this is where draft eligible prospects perform the same drills they performed at the NFL Combine (player can also decline to participate and keep the numbers they posted at the NFL Combine if they had participated and believes that their numbers were good), but now they are doing it at their college campus. In Matt Bowens’ article “What to expect at the Pro Day Workouts” he stated that “the pro day on campus. Prospects are invited to be at the event or they can decline and stay at home. Before being drafted, mostly all of the draft prospects will receive a phone call by the owner or any of the coaching staff to let them know they have been selected in the draft. The phone call usually last about 1-2 minute congratulating the player and giving the player directions on what to do next, such as if they need to catch a plane to head to team facilities. They will be able to shake hand with the NFL Commissioner, be given a jersey of their new team to them and last of all have their picture taken with the NFL Commissioner who is announcing the 1st round draft picks that night. The process of the NFL Draft along take about three days to complete. “There is a total of 256 draft picks available every year and each team is assigned to have seven draft picks within the seven rounds (each team have a pick in each round).” (NFL Draft Rules) To determine where each team pick is based on how they finished last season. In Uffords’ video in his article “The History if the NFL Draft explained in about 2 minutes” he stated that “The owners approved a format that is still used today, teams will take turn to select a pool of newly eligible players with the worst teams opportunity to pick first.”(Ufford). For example if a team has the worst record in the NFL they are subjected to being the first one to pick in each round and the team who won the Lombardi Trophy also known as the Super Bowl will be picking last in each round. Teams can move around the draft by either trading picks for players for picks.
