Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?

Pro-choice or pro-life? That’s a question everyone asks themselves with the topic of abortion. Is it really “killing” a baby when their just an egg and nothing more? In this argument, pro-choice is the answer. “Throughout the world, wherever abortion is illegal and unsafe, committed people make enormous risks to provide safe abortions clandestinely to treat women who have complication and to help women find safe providers” (“ Abortion”). Abortion has been practiced legally in the United States until 1880. The abortion legality is/was based on a woman’s status and political power. Abortion should remain legal and easily accessible for all women because it will put them at ease mentally knowing they have a choice, to show the world that they are equal to everyone else, and that they’re capable of making their own choices. (“Abortion”) There are many downfalls of making abortion illegal. One of the reasons being that if made illegal, many pregnant women will go to unsafe and life threatening abortions. In fact, half of all pregnancies in the US are intended. Without abortion what will happen to these mothers with unanticipated babies? There are 68,000 maternal deaths each year because of “back-alley” or illegal abortions. Also, one woman dies every 7 minutes around the world from unsafe abortions. “Prior to 1966, Rumania allowed abortions to take place and as a result, maintained a very low maternal death rate. From 1966 to 1989 abortions were made illegal and the maternal mortality increased over ten times compared to the remainder of Europe”(“Abortion Statistics”). This quote proves that if abortion was made legal the maternal death rates would go down instead of leaving it increase over the years. Abortion has its pros and cons but everyone should trust that women are capable of weighing out each factor and choosing what is best. Abortion should remain legal and easily accessible for all women because it will put them at ease mentally knowing they have a choice, to show the world that they are equal to everyone else, and that they’re capable of making their own choices. This is a nationwide topic that seems like no one is really taking control over. The government should never be able to make decisions for other people’s bodies nevertheless one with another body inside of it. If abortion was legalized, there would be less than 68,000 deaths a year maternally and more happy women. All in all, there is only one key thing here and that is to let women choose.
