Over the years there have been controversy and debate that professional athletes who perform in sports such as football, baseball, soccer and basketball are paid more than what they deserve. It may seem unfair that professional athletes earn millions of dollars for playing a sport while others are spending many hours of their life helping other people feel safe, be healthy, be educated and feel protected while being paid minimal to what pro athletes earn. With every sport generating revenues in billions it gives its players a fair share which normally is higher comparing to the salary of a doctor, military men, teachers, and police officers. In an article by Kevin Patra he writes that Russell Wilson of Seahawks has become the highest paid quarterback in the market after his contract extension of four years. The extension is worth $87.6 million, averaging about $21.9 million a season (Patra, 2015). According to a statistic shown in Statista, Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers receives a total salary of 35.57 million U.S dollars for the 2018 season making him the highest paid baseball player (Statista, 2018). Similarly, according to by Cork Gains, Stephen Curry is the highest paid NBA player of 2018 season earing $34.7 million. With this record Curry successfully managed to beat LeBron James’s salary of $33.3 million (Gains, 2018). In the world of soccer, the highest paid player is Lionel Messi, his yearly salary is 46 million euros (Kappel, 2018).
