With growing competition in the job market, parents are assuring their child receives the best possible education. Private schools are continuing to grow in popularity throughout the 21st century. Private schools better prepare students to succeed in the college. Private schools have a different setting that makes students feel more accepted and comfortable. Private schools have small classroom sizes compared to public schools. Small class room sizes are extremely important in education. Small classes force the students to actively participate in class. But in public high schools students can sit in the back of the class and keep to themselves. Participating in class is what helps students learn. Discipline is extremely enforced throughout these schools because it teaches self-control, which is ultimately what College is about. Before being enrolled students are required to read the code of conduct and prove they understand the terms. The contract outlines the zero tolerance about misbehavior in classroom, cheating, substance abuse, etc. If you are caught cheating you are going to get kicked out of the school automatically. They are free to punish you as they please reasonably since the government is not involved. This is why teachers don’t have to spend time ending side conversations between students in class. They are well aware of the possible outcomes, and that teachers won’t hesitate. There rarely are problems regarding misbehavior of student’s since they are well aware and mature enough to not break the code of conduct. Private schools are very strict when having to use disciplinary action. With a continuing growing amount of school shootings, safety is becoming an important factor to make sure students are comfortable and feel accepted. The Bureau of Justice Statistics and the National Center for Education Statistics did a report asking students, if they fear being threatened going to/from school. 5.1% of public students were threatened. Only 0.9% of private school students have experienced this issue (Roper). Private schools are much safer due to the fact of smaller enrollment. Bullying is noticed much earlier on in private schools compared to public schools. Students also form stronger connections with teachers in counselors, so it feels normal for them to speak to them. Private schools also bring in consultants to conduct lessons about bullying and many other problems children will confront. Children who can express their feelings, ideas, and opinions without fear of being judged learn confidence as well as compromise to problems they face. Private schools prevent problems by teaching
