Do you think that jobs in movies and tv shows realistic? When some people hear “Private Investigator”, they think The Nice Guy and Jessica Jones. I hate to tell you but those shows aren’t completely correct about what a real private investigator does. It’s like believing the Walmart commercial with flash running around helping people. It isn’t entirely true. The workers help the people. They just aren’t flash. Being a private investigator takes a lot of hard work and skills; but a different way to help people without putting yourself in harms way. A private investigator is the work for a variety of clients to confirm information. They help with legal matters and other problems. I didn’t know there is different types of PI’s. I am going to
Between all of the criminal shows on television these days, it is hard to get an accurate idea of what it truly means to be a police officer or a detective. Sure, it is simple to listen to all of their analysis and listen to the way they find the bad guys, but is that truly how it works? Criminal Minds is one of the most popular shows on television today because of the way it portrays the FBI in their endless search of new bad guys and the way it shows the criminals’ plot and true evil. Law and Order carefully portrays the entire process behind putting the criminals away. 24 goes through the entire day in one, twenty-four, episode season just to show the viewer every moment of a story. Shows like Psych make fun of the police officers and the
Most of the nation receives their information on law enforcement from television. That’s why I knew the Maranda rights by heart before I was even 12. Law and Order, Criminal Minds, NCIS, and shows similar to this are why some even enter into the law enforcement field they want to be like the famous profilers that solve cases in one hour plus commercials.
Reward power in Detective Doe’s case is very complicated because of the harm extrinsic rewards can have on a person’s intrinsic motivations (Vansteenkiste et al. 2006). Intrinsic motivation is key in Detective Doe’s line of work because many of the people who join the NYPD do so out of a sense of wanting to give back and help communities. By adding more extrinsic rewards or forms of compensation this will take away from the fulfillment of a task and the interest of it as well (Deci 1972). By keeping a focus on the intrinsic rewards and overall satisfaction of police work Detective Doe is able to properly influence and motivate his followers.
Federal Agents have many duties and can specialize in a vast array of different areas. “As an FBI Special Agent you may work on issues the encompass terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, organized crime, extortion, kidnapping, whit-collar crime, public corruption, civil rights violations, cyber crime, financial crime, bribery, bank robbery, air piracy, interstate criminal activity, fugitive and drug trafficking matters, and other violations of federal statutes” (Gadek). Special Agents perform duties such as: “tracking the movement of stolen goods across state lines,” “listening to legal wiretaps,” and “performing undercover investigations.” Once trained special agents will specialize in one of five areas: intelligence, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, criminalistics or cybercrime (Kane). Most special agents will then be assigned to a specific field office in which they will work at and live near (“FBI Agent”).
Speaking of FBI, people will think of the following picture: and FBI agent holding the gun point it to the suspect one hand, the other hand show the certification and shout "FBI". They exist in a number of movies and TV series as heroes. Are FBI in real life the same as people seen on TV? The fascination of TV “Criminal Minds” has affected many viewers about the FBI, however, the real agents are different than they are on TV. As people know, the FBI is a very mysterious organization.
On February 27th, 2014 I had the pleasure to interview Detective Vincent Velazquez who was referred to me by Professor Paul Guerrucci. Vincent currently works at the Atlanta Police Department located in 226 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30303. On the day of the interview, I was a little anxious since this was actually the first time I interview a crime investigator, however Vincent was very professional and he allowed me to record the entire conversation. I was able to ask questions about his personal life, full details of his profession, current case assignments, criminal investigation procedures and existing problems in the investigation process.
... forensic scientist work really weird hours. Some work until the case is closed. That could be a very long time. You get good pay for it. And you learn somthing new every day. It would definitely be something that i would do.
This is also a detective story.
The movie Serpico depicts the life of a New York Police Department officer in 1973. In Serpico, Frank Serpico (Al Pacino) challenges his community and his police force to reveal the corruption that takes place by those who are supposed to protect and abide by the law. A career in law enforcement is a unique opportunity that has intrigued me for the majority of my life. My curiosity likely stems from multiple family members of mine, who either have a career in law enforcement or had one previously. With my family history and my interest in law enforcement, it would appear that selecting an occupation in law enforcement would be a simple task. Yet, I often ponder whether I would prefer to work for a municipal agency such as the San Francisco Police Department, or a federal agency, namely the FBI. I have researched a multitude of factors such as qualifications, requirements, salary, and job description to assist me in determining which profession is the right one for me.

Did you know that the first private investigation agency was started by a criminal? While conducting research over this particular topic I learned a lot of interesting information regarding the type of work done by private investigators, as well as the potential employment opportunities. This world is a crazy and deceptive place and it is up to us to get to the truth of everything. Becoming a private investigator will be a time consuming, potentially dangerous, yet extremely rewarding career path. (History of Private Investigations, 2013)

One major difference between public and private investigator is the training that they have to go through before they qualify to do criminal investigations.
