A family is sitting around their dining room table. They are eating a meal and having quality time together, but little did they know, a terrorist group was about to bomb their neighborhood and change their lives forever. For situations like this, America, as well as other countries, have typically sent foreign aid to try to help the families and countries that are in those terrible situations. Some people, however, are beginning to think that America helping other countries is a bad idea. Even though there are flaws within America, getting involved with other countries is vital to the future because people around the world count on the US to enforce international humanitarian laws, it is beneficial to their military, and democracy is the optimal …show more content…

This is one reason that somebody like Caroline Tehrani, an author of an online article about why America shouldn't get involved with other countries, would say. In her article, Tehrani used the evidence that “the United States national debt is over eighteen trillion dollars” to further her point. Being that the US is so far in debt, they shouldn't spend their money on other countries. The main focus of the US should be on bettering themselves and their economy. The biggest problem of the US is that they have less than no money to spend, and that is why they should conserve the money they spend overseas. However, Ryan Duggan, a newspaper writer, wrote an article that released the amount of money that the US spends on foreign affairs. As Duggan wrote, “Annually, the US spends around fifty billion dollars on foreign aid to countries overseas.” If the US national debt is over eighteen billion dollars, and only fifty billion dollars is spent on foreign aid, then that means that foreign aid is responsible for only .28% of their debt. The US should try to fix their debt, and that is a fact. However, being that foreign aid is such a miniscule part of their debt, it wouldn't make much of a difference if it were cut out. Also, it helps the countries they send it to more than the US could imagine.
