President John F.Kennedys assassination

On November 22 1963, the whole word was shocked after John F. Kennedy the 35th President of United States was assassinated. This happened as he was traveling through Dallas in Texas in an open convertible. He was accompanied in the Lincoln convertible by his wife Jacqueline Kennedy and the Texas governor Connally and his wife. As they were waving a crowd passing through downtown Dallas streets, a gunman fired shots from top of Texas School Book Depository building injuring the President and governor (Davis, 2009).

The President was pronounced dead some minutes after arrival at Dallas Parklands Hospital. He passed on at the age of 46.The vice president Lyndon Johnson who was also traveling in the motorcade took on the presidential oath of office and was now sworn in as the 36th President of US. President Johnson declared national morning for the assassinated president. A requiem mass was held and many people lined up to pay their last respect for the slain president. He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetry, in full military honors.

The gunman was later identified as Harvey Oswald from New Orleans born in 1939.He had married a soviet woman and had tried to secure a citizenship but was unable. He had at one time attempted to kill a former US Army general Edwin Walker but missed. Some minutes after the President was shot, the police started to question everybody (Zirbel, 2001). He shot a policeman who wanted to question him and fled. People who saw th8is reported the incident to the police who started to look for the suspect and later arrested him. • The treaty banning partial test of nuclear.

• The Peace Corps affair.

• Putting a man on the moon.

In one of his speech, he says,” We in this country, in this generation, are by destination, rather than choice, the watchmen on the walls of freedom."
