Services in Public Assistance Division are: the agency is struggling to adapt to new policies, regulations, and requirements concerning the distribution of needed resources. Also another problem that should be addressed the way workers treat clients, most of whom are women of color. Lastly, another problem is that workers are pressured to process clients through the problem-solving process as quickly as possible and little emphasis is placed on client empowerment. These problems need to be addressed because it will help the agency to improve in various areas. The process of empowering clients is gravely needed in the social work profession and in life in general. Empowerment is where you can assist people in developing their aware that they have their own strengths and resources to solve their own problems. Empowerment is not easily gained for many individuals at times one may need that affirmation that they are doing something achievable and commendable. Helping clients to identify their strengths is a great aspect of the social work profession. Empowerment is needed on a daily basis when working with clients. Clients need to feel that someone is on their side and that they have someone who is looking out for their needs. I think that starting small to reach workers in my own unit would be beneficial because you will be able to get a feel on worker’s opinions about the situation at hand. I do not think that I should initiate the training myself. If I was to initiate the training myself I do not think that the co-workers would be receptive to what I may have to say. I believe that the training should be established by someone who is more of an expert in emphasizing the importance of client empowerment, new policies, and treatme... ... middle of paper ... ...change only on a temporary basis. Another con of this change is the fact that change may not happen. It may be hard for many workers to actually change. When a person is set in their ways change will not happen overnight. A person has to be w willing to change and recognize that there is a problem with the way certain things have been happening in the agency. According to the National Association of Social Workers (2008) Social workers' primary goal is to help people in need and to address social problems. The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well­being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. If this mission is not being upheld then we as social workers are not conducting our sacred duty to the profession.
