Services in Public Assistance Division are: the agency is struggling to adapt to new policies, regulations, and requirements concerning the distribution of needed resources. Also another problem that should be addressed the way workers treat clients, most of whom are women of color. Lastly, another problem is that workers are pressured to process clients through the problem-solving process as quickly as possible and little emphasis is placed on client empowerment. These problems need to be addressed because it will help the agency to improve in various areas. The process of empowering clients is gravely needed in the social work profession and in life in general. Empowerment is where you can assist people in developing their aware that they have their own strengths and resources to solve their own problems. Empowerment is not easily gained for many individuals at times one may need that affirmation that they are doing something achievable and commendable. Helping clients to identify their strengths is a great aspect of the social work profession. Empowerment is needed on a daily basis when working with clients. Clients need to feel that someone is on their side and that they have someone who is looking out for their needs. I think that starting small to reach workers in my own unit would be beneficial because you will be able to get a feel on worker’s opinions about the situation at hand. I do not think that I should initiate the training myself. If I was to initiate the training myself I do not think that the co-workers would be receptive to what I may have to say. Another con of this change is the fact that change may not happen. It may be hard for many workers to actually change. When a person is set in their ways change will not happen overnight. A person has to be w willing to change and recognize that there is a problem with the way certain things have been happening in the agency. According to the National Association of Social Workers (2008) Social workers' primary goal is to help people in need and to address social problems. The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human wellbeing and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. If this mission is not being upheld then we as social workers are not conducting our sacred duty to the profession.
Weick (1992) states “every person has an inherent power that may be characterized as life force, transformational capacity, life energy, spirituality, regenerative potential, and healing power, which is a potent form of knowledge that can guide personal and social transformation” (p. 24). No matter the crisis or oppression, it needs to be brought to client’s realization that they are strong, resilient and can overcome. They may not be aware of this inner power due to the constant stress and overwhelming sense of impending doom in their lives, but with the help of the strengths perspective, we can assist clients in realizing that they have strengths as well as weaknesses. Clients want to know that they can rely on social workers to provide adequate resources and respect their current situation, no matter how difficult it may be. Clients want to know that we can empathize with their situation and provide support, care and concern for the issues they are going through; they need to know that we will help them achieve their goals and not give up on them as many may have before in their lives. Within the empowerment theory there is a focus on conscious raising, social justice, mutual aid , power, socialization, and group cohesion. The DSNI strives to achieve all of these sub-ideas within the theory.

In social work there are many theories that are very beneficial. I think that empowerment theories are something you must know about. First, I will list some reasons why these theories are special. Then, we will explore the history of it. Thirdly, the key concepts will give us an open insight on what we are really talking about. Fourthly, we will focus on the term critical consciousness. Next is defining the empowerment concepts in a social context. Finally there will be information on the social work empowerment theories more in depth.
Empowerment is the feeling of control, the ability to make our own decisions, the confidence to achieve autonomy and well-being.
As the police adapt to the social climate, teachers try new learning methods and those in the medical profession use new medicines, social workers must too adapt and develop with the times. Everything was once an experiment, and there cannot be progression if Social Workers are not prepared to alter their mind-sets and practice according to new evidence and research. Being research minded, and able to question yourself and the things you are taught is integral to being a good social worker, and one who will be able to enable and protect the service users they work for through an ever changing, developing society.

When they are in need we must do everything in our power to make a change. Sometimes this involve advocating for them to see a change in social problems. The definition of a social worker states that they are trained person that carries out work with the aim of alleviating conditions of those in need (12). This often calls the need for social justice. After learning about social workers throughout history, I realize there’s multiple ways to help those in need (11). They’ve been able to implement social welfare for the public.
