Washington State University College of Nursing has provided me with a vast range of opportunities. One of the most significant learning objectives that I met was applying management/leadership principles to my nursing practice. My clinical and practicum experiences have helped me master my management and leadership skills. For my community health clinical, I had the opportunity to develop a health fair. One of my classmates and I planned, organized, and ran a health fair for the homeless population in Yakima. This project required that I communicate with different organizations to ensure that we had a location for the health fair, as well as gather donations to hand out to our participants. These learning goals are essential to my future nursing career to ensure that I provide the best care to each patient. One of the most important learning goals that apply to my future in nursing is that I adapted excellent critical and creative thinking skills. Throughout my nursing school experience, I have been forced to use good critical and creative thinking skills. By applying knowledge learned from lecture classes and using critical and creative thinking skills, I have assisted patients presenting with unique symptoms. During my practicum experience, I worked with an infant that was being therapeutically cooled, due to being diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. When my preceptor and I started the warming process, this individual’s oxygen saturations started to drop into the 80s. I helped reposition the infant, due to the baby becoming relaxed, and therefore, occluding his airway.
