Winston Churchill said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference between failure and success.” Everybody strives for success in their life, though they have many different tactics in how they achieve it. Out of those many ways, the most important key to success is to keep a positive attitude. Therefore, being open-minded, focusing on only the good, and being a friendly person can help success be achieved through positivity. First and foremost, one of the qualities of positivity is open-mindedness. Open-mindedness is the state of how receptive a person is to new ideas. This is also a helpful tip to minimize stress. A recent study shows that stress is often caused by negativity which then can directly affect the brain. When under stress, the brain sends nerve signals throughout the body causing increased heart rate and higher blood pressure. This results in disorientation, which causes confusion, and can then lead to the inability to concentrate. By simply being nice, positivity can be achieved, becoming a huge asset in goals and jobs. A survey taken world-wide showed that people who were nice were perceived as being positive, willing to listen, and non-judgemental resulting in people coming to them for advice or for help judging new ideas. For example, Condoleezza Rice, U.S. Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, has achieved much more than anyone in her childhood ever thought she would. She came from a poverty-stricken childhood where everyone told her she would always be a nobody. She chose to stay positive and overcome all of the lies fed to her as a child. She began to work her way up the social status and was known as one of the friendliest women in Washington D.C. due to her kindness. A fellow acquaintance in the business world introduced her to politics, and she began her political journey. Along the way she met George Bush; her kindness, straight-forwardness, and persistence created a major impact on him. Since he valued her opinions and knew she would listen and be unbiased, he appointed her as Secretary of State.
