Political ideology is the belief system that society can be improved by following a certain doctrine. Most societies follow political ideologies with the plan to improve itself and create a stronger foundation for years to come. However to what extent should societies trust and follow these ideologies? Are ideologies suppose to be followed religiously with no room for exceptions? What are the negative and positive effects of these ideologies and how long are their effects? This is the issue of nationalism. Nationalism is people’s heightened sense of cultural, geographical identity. The ideology is born out of sovereignty and is a political tactic to establish legitimacy. Patriotic feelings are created amongst citizens, establishing pride in one’s nation. This greater sense of one’s nation results in exaggeration in achievements and ignorance or total omission in failures. In its ideal form, nationalism has the power to unite a nation, implementing the idea of freedom. However negatively, the ideology creates resentment towards foreign powers and silences social issues such as gender and race struggles in order to prioritize national issues such as …show more content…

This is problematic, because of the parasitical relationship between women and their countries. Countries call on women to vote, if they are even lucky enough to have that, and to become active and support their home in every way possible, for the sake of the “motherland” such as the mobilization of women and the home front during World War II. Simultaneously, while expecting these duties from their female citizens the nation forces women into gender roles that limits their opportunities. Frankly, most nations demand the support of their female citizens while utilizing women’s appearance and skills without concern for their current or future well
