Birth, which is the beautiful beginning of a lifelong relationship, is not an easy process to say the least. Before, during and after the birth there are many pains as well as discomforts, but from my experience, it is worth it. When you see your child for the first time, you forget all the pain you had and just gaze at them. This essay is my personal experience with labour, birth and what comes after, all of which was positive but not easy. My daughter was born on October 27, 2014, which was her due date. This is a rare occurrence as only 5% of babies are born on their due date (LaMotte). On the 26th of October, I woke up at 6 am due to a little pain, which I found out later was the start of labour. As I walked to the labour room, I knew what I was doing and was mentally and physically prepared, both of which are themes in a positive birth experience (Karlström 4). I also knew what I wanted, which was a “great birth”, which Talbot states is one that is natural and free of excessive pain(854). I wanted a natural birth because I have heard many stories where people that had medical interventions, had a hard time bonding with their babies, as well as a higher chance of depression (Talbot 855,856). I was ready to give birth, but the presence of my husband both in the house as well as in the labour room was a crucial part in my positive birthing experience (Karlström 4). He helped me so much and I could not have done it without him. It was very nice to share this experience with him. When my daughter was born three hours after I had entered the labour room.
